When Will We Contend?

Here is my issue with that: What is the goal of this team? Is it to win a title? Or make the playoffs? Either way, they have screwed themselves over. If it is to win a title, then they need to sit players and lose, because the only shot Utah has at a title is to get Parker/Wiggins and hope they turn out better then Durrant.

If it's to make the playoffs and "contend" then they were stupid, because they could have done that this year with a few tweaks to the current roster.

Either way, the Jazz look like they might be stuck in Minnesota/Milwaukee/Sacramento land...too good to actually get good, and too sucky to be good.

There is a third option.... make the playoffs and go deep in the playoffs which is what i think thier plan is

What you are doing is trolling. You posted a general statement in a focused thread just to get a rise out of someone. Just because people don't agree with stoked doesn't mean they are trolling.

Trolling by calling others trolls is quite pathetic.

With that being said. I believe we will be in the playoff hunt in two years if we keep our core4 and Burke. There is ALOT of talent on this team. If they learn each others strengths and weaknesses and how to work with them then we could be a really good team with no major changes made.

I'm not sold yet on all of the core5. I do agree there is a lot of talent PLUS the addition of a top-10, maybe even top-5 pick this year + another potentially solid rotation player with the GS pick. DL has the assets and cap space to bring in a FA and/or make some trades.

Will Utah ever have a "LeBron" or "Kobe?" Probably not. Even a top-3 pick is not guaranteed to bring in a superstar: Parker, Wiggins, Embiid are POTENTIALLY superstars, but not automatic. That said, the Jazz will be extremely deep after this draft. There is potential to trade assets to improve the team.

I disagree. I think the Jazz had given a very good effort towards a championship this year. Would being the worst team in the league be better pick wise? Sure. But the jazz simply have to much talent for that. I am surprised we don't have 5-6 more wins to be honest. The jazz have been developing the players we have and are in very good position (so far) on the tank. They are fighting for the 4th pick going into the lottery.

This sense that all is lost just doesn't click with me.

This is what scares me. Think how long some teams go on losing season after season. I don't know if this market will support a perennial loser. Look at how many green seats are at the games this year.

Actually, the Jazz, as far as selling tickets goes, have done quite well this year.

I don't mind being patient with the Jazz organization as long as I don't have to wait. But, seriously folks, how long will it be until the Jazz are contenders in the NBA. I know the Jazz have been trying to get flexibility in the salary cap for free agents, but I don't see much potential in available free agents. I don't see a big trade bringing a star here and I don't see a draft pick turning things around instantly.

Well I hope you can be patient for a few years, Jazz fans are kinda of spoiled. Whatever time it takes as long as I feel they are just happy where they are, I am willing to wait because just making the playoffs gets old. It all depends how smart the organization is with finding the right coach, keeping the right players and how they manage their fiances compared to other teams. They need their players to continue to improve, they need luck in the lottery and they need a few of their young players to become better than people have anticipated. I know this is a lot of IFs.

However, the most important thing is the franchise has to develop the attitude that nothing but a championship is the only goal. I think if the Jazz get one of the top 3 players in this draft, retain the majority of their players, get a defensive/head coach and sign an important FA then next year they will battle for a playoff position. In three years they could be legitimate contenders.

This may be overly optimistic and a lot has to happen including a little luck but I can't see any reason why the Jazz can't be contenders sooner rather than later.

Jazz are averaging 17,946. 14th in the league. Ahead of teams like the Nets, Pacers, Grizzlies, Suns and Magic (winning and decent market teams). Not to mention that they are supported by a wide, and growing, net of other businesses. The jazz are never leaving Utah.

If the Jazz get a good draft pick new coach and get some work done in free agency they will be back up to 19k next year. I see the Jazz leaving Utah argument as unfounded.

A decent amount. Burks should continue to improve quite a bit (22 years old), kanter should improve alot (21 years old), trey should improve a bunch (20 or 21 years old), I think favors offense will continue to grow, hayward will be better once his contract is behind him and he is in a better role on the team.
Gobert should get alot better too

If things break right, especially in the next two drafts, and the jazz get a better coach, my guess would be 4 seasons so until they are a legit contender

1. The goal was to rebuild. Re-signing Millsap, Carroll, Foye and a PG like Mo was NOT good enough to contend. Utah would have barely made the playoffs and then drafted in the late teens. Had that type of team last season and barely missed the playoffs. That's the real definition of "too good to actually get good."

2. Never had a chance at Parker/Wiggins, at least not record-wise. To suggest the Jazz actually sit healthy players is ridiculous. And then what, we complain because the core5 aren't getting playing time and sitting them is delaying their development?

• Milwaukee had a terrible roster to begin with, and then the Sanders situation sealed their fate as a bottom-2 team.
• Philadelphia traded away their best players. Should Lindsey have sold Favors, Hayward, Kanter and Burks for 2nd round picks?
• Orlando has a very weak roster.
• Boston was set up to fail. Compare their top-5 vs Utah. Rondo is better, of course, but only 19 games played. Hayward/Burks vs. Green/Bradley; Bass/Sullinger vs. Favors/Kanter. Not even close.
• Lakers have been devastated by injuries

I'm frankly surprised Utah is in the race for the 4-7 pick. Credit that to a tough schedule, opportune injuries to Burke and Favors and a horrible year for Hayward. That Utah is apparently going to get even a top-10 pick is cause for celebration. Had all the core5 had solid years, Jazz might be looking at a .500 season and a 13-14 pick.

Seeing how in order to contend you have to have LeBron or Duncan, and possibly Durant, not any time soon.

Hope you are not serious...

Do you believe any of these teams were contenders? 2011 mavs. 2010 celtics 2009 magic. 2013 pacers. 2003 nets. 2004 pistons? Also spurs are not today a superstar driven team. They play defense and team ball.
