I've never seen such gaping holes in the stadium. It looks as if maybe the lower bowl is around 70% full which makes me think the upper bowl is about 50%. The capacity at the Arena is at 19,911 and tonight's attendance was 17,859. So I guess it's better than it appeared on tv. Something must be working with how the Jazz are playing at home.

Also for your reading pleasure this is the paragraph from the ESA's wiki page:

EnergySolutions Arena (originally Dental Center) is an indoor arena, in Salt Lake City, Utah, United States, owned by Jazz Basketball Investors, Inc., the estate of Larry H. Miller. The arena seats 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses.
Opened in 1991, the arena was known as the Dental Center, until EnergySolutions purchased the naming rights, after Delta Air Lines declined to renew their 15 year contact, effective November 20, 2006.

WTF?

They are smaller than regular people I guess, oh and this is the place of the gathering. There can be only one, or something.

Yeah, I have been thinking the same thing. I guess we really haven't played any big name teams at home yet though. I watched the last few minutes of the GS/Miami game and Golden State's arena is ridiculously packed. Hopefully we get the same with the Lakers tomorrow.

January weekday games have always been lower attended in my opinion. Combine that with the lockout and not much excitement going into the season and you find yourself with a half empty arena. It will pick up.

I thinks it's safe to call that Sixers game a quality win.

Apparently they were sitting at home watching it on TV and looking at the gaping holes.

In a normal year with lower expectations and uncertain identities, attendance generally lags pre-Christmas and the picks up around the end of Jan up until the end of the season. With all the changes the team has undergone and then the lockout, fans are still feeling out this team. ESA will be packed tomorrow night and Saturday night and as long as the Jazz remain in the playoff picture it will eventually pick up.

I meant there haven't been any big name stars coming into town to attract fans. Philly is a good team, but they don't have any stars that are going to attract a larger than usual crowd. Every team sells more tickets when Kobe, Lebron, Paul, Dwill, Howard, and Rose come into town.

In short, people don't want to actually watch a team rebuild. That's what's wrong with people who want the team to ditch the vets and play the rookies, nobody wants to watch. Guess they didn't get the memo that the team would fight like rabid dogs and play to win every game. As has been said, it'll pick up when it becomes apparent that the Jazz are in a playoff race, like usual.

I went to the Grizzlies game and the arena seemed full. I haven't looked it up, but it appears that the weekend games have had good attendance.

Despite what the government says, we are still in a recession and many people have to cut back.

They funny thing is that the Jazz are #10 on average home attendance.

They are #6 on road attendance, #5 on overall attendance and #15 on total attendance. To me that looks more like the tickets are being bought and just not used.

I think the lower attendance is due to the lock-out. I have several friends who get season tickets, but didn't this year because of the compressed schedule. Having this meany games in a week is tough to go to all the games. I also think that when you have a game against the Cavs and the next night against the Lakers, most would choose to go to the Lakers.
