I've been think how can a group that is aligned pretty much with the GOP, the wealthy, and the Fox News (a group of the media). See themselves as a real movement like the original Tea Party that was protest a lot more than a 4% tax hike on the top grossing Americans. I like the a Keith Olbermann rant on how everyone is handling the Occupy Wall Street movement.

Now I want us all to think hard who is protesting social injustices?

Is a free college education, earning a minimum of 20 dollars an hour, and redistributing the wealth a human right? I am sure there are people that mean well with OWS. Just as there were with the TP. But all of that is just ridiculous. BTW, KOC is a good GM.

Yeah, because Denmark which has free education including college, the world's highest minimum wage of almost $19/hour, and an overall tax burden estimated at 46% creating the world's highest income equality and they happen to have the highest life satisfaction in the world (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...worlds-happiest-country--official-410075.html), a life expectancy longer than the USA's (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy), and the third highest education index in the world (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_Index). That would suck though, so you're probably right.

Denmark

Yes, we should become Denmark..... Do you people ever actually listen to yourselves? Instead of looking for handouts, start working for what you want. You think the unemployment rate now is bad. Wait until you require a 20 dollar an hour minimum wage. Who pays for this free college education? I know your solution, just keep printing money. Why not? Seems to work for everything else.

I agree that I don't want to pay for the education of those who hardily gave any effort through school. I got a 3.6 GPA in high school, a 3.2 in college. My wife and I worked full-time through school. So, I do feel that you should have to work hard and sacrifice to go to school. But, it hasn't paid off yet for me. I'm not complaining about that. I think that they should reduce federal grants and scholarships including to athletes. But, at the same time like Agoxlea pointed out how does turning into a society with the haves and the have nots profit anyone except the haves? All it teaches is the best way to the top is committing as many crimes as you can without getting caught see Goldmann Sach, Pete Carroll, and Bill Belichek. No one is talking redistribution of wealth get off the Fox News talking points. We are talking about if you made it in this country good for you. But, now help out the same country that got you where you are. And if you did this by committing crimes than you have pay (by serving time) for them.

Taxes and charitable contributions are IMO enough. If you want to close loopholes etc then please do so. But you are pretty much advocating going in and taking someone's money because life isn't fair.

Ummm I was disagreeing with trigg3r/agreeing with you...

What's the tax rate in Denmark these days? Are you actually foolish enough to think that would work over here?

46% is the estimated tax burden. I think it is something like a 25% VAT and the rest is made up of other taxes. look at my post before the one where I said only Denmark. Their minimum wage is actually really close to $20/hour too. It is $18 and some change. Why wouldn't any of that work here? Denmark is happier than us, has more income equality, is more educated, and lives longer than us. I don't see what's so bad about that. Would it not work because we're so exceptional?

Pete Carroll and Bill Belichik committed no crimes genius.

Well since you neg repped me for saying the almost the EXACT conditions you described, happen to exist in a country that is ranked higher than the USA in almost every major health, education, and happiness index I would like to know which of those make me an "idiot". I wasn't even proposing that we actually do any of that(which I wouldn't necessarily mind), but I was pointing out that those things in practice actually exist, and turned out just fine. I'd love an explanation.

This is pretty funny, but I don't see how any of the things I said would be considered the reason for our debt. If taxes are raised to pay for these programs, we don't need to print any money.

What works in Denmark is not going to work in the US. Just the population size and diversity of the US alone is a huge factor. The US military is another major factor.

Even if the US became strict isolationist and retracted its military from the rest of the world and then shrunk it just enough to cover our own butts it still wouldn't work here.

Of course you do. He's a liberal weenie to the Nth degree. He is to the left what Hannity is to the right. No facts needed just hyperbole and rhetoric.

I agree our military would have to be significantly cut back which I support, but other than that I don't think either of us could predict whether that would or wouldn't work. I believe it would, but obviously couldn't prove it. Either way I never was arguing we should do that, I just listed a country that met the specifications listed by trigg3r that is doing better than the USA currently.

Ok no crimes but didn't they cheat and look at their rewards.

Everyone that thinks that the left is out for the redistribution of wealth from the wealthy to the poor are completely wrong. This country needs tax revenues to run the programs that we all use and or benefit from as a society. You have to get that revenue from somewhere. Lets let the mega wealthy pay since they can. There is a movie In Time with JT it shows exactly the problems we are in. Where the rich have all the power to influence the laws and rules of the game of life in their favor. And by cheating or committing a little bit you can get ahead.
