Maybe Zimmerman is guilty of murder. If so he should go away for a very long time. If not then the evidence will support that and he should go free. Let's see what the evidence says.

Does the evidence gve Zimmerman justifiable reason to shoot Martin? That is what is in debate, you do not know that any bettar than I do. Also no you do not want justice. In strictly legal terms, the evidence has not been tried before a court with jurisdiction as a "trier of fact". When someone is arrested, they are charged with a crime, and the game begins with the evidence. A lot of evidence is thrown out for one reason or another that seems to please the judge who is the "trier of fact". In most states, you can't appeal the decision of the court that rules on the facts, you can only appeal on the many other possible issues concerning due process, precedents, and things following from those facts. When someone is arrested, there needs to be some reason for the arrest, some probability perceived that there are facts sufficient to go before a court. If you don't have that much, the defendent can come back on the State with a case charging false arrest.

If new facts or evidence is found afterwards, you need to petition for a re-trial. If it's a capital case, you just can't do that. So a reasonable State will train its police to get enough evidence to convict before arresting the alleged perp. That's the nut that kept Josh Powell out on the lam, and from what I've seen in alleged evidence in the Zimmerman case, he's going to be coming back with a case for false arrest, because Martin got mad, lost his temper, and assaulted the idiot that was stalking him.

But who knows what the politics in this case will go to. Maybe this half-white accused is going to get lynched by a black mob. Says volumes about where the march for civil rights has taken the black community. But it's not the first time the tables have been completely turned in the history of mankind's fragmented self-image. Looks like we're all pretty much the same. . . . when we get the power, we abuse it and trample on other people's rights.

No I don't want Zimmerman convicted regardless of the justice system finds. I've been clear from the get-go that I'd like to see him, and his ilk, wiped from the gene pool. Anyone who decides to become a neighborhood watchman displays a personality trait that ruins humanity. You clearly have not comprehended any of my messages in either thread. I've never been commenting on this from a legal perspective. But from my perspective, there is no justifiable reason to shoot another human being who isn't armed with a weapon.

So to Scat's point, no I didn't conveniently leave it out. No one can truly know how Zimmerman cut his head open. But even if Trayvon were pummeling him mercilessly, it still wouldn't excuse Super-Hero Neighborhood Watchman for discharging his gun. I think the most basic pre-requisite to be a neighborhood watchman would be marginal ability of defending yourself physically without a weapon. Not necessarily knowing how to fight, but to be physically strong enough that you wouldn't die if a teenager tried fist-fighting with you.

Really? If I wake up in the middle of the night and hear someone clomping around the house, I ID the person and if it's not a family member I shoot first and ask questions later. I'm not asking them if they have a weapon and then wait to see if they produce one. They are in my house and shouldn't be. That is on them. Yelling that you are going to bust out the "fists of fury" or "I'm going to kick your ***" will likely get you injured if not killed.

I think the most basic pre-requisite to be a neighborhood watchman would be marginal ability of defending yourself physically without a weapon. Not necessarily knowing how to fight, but to be physically strong enough that you wouldn't die if a teenager tried fist-fighting with you.

The only qualification is a desire to be involved. The captain is usually the person willing to take on the job regardless of physical stature.

I should've have been more clear, and I apologize for that. I was merely talking about circumstances like zimmerman/martin. Home invasion or instances where you see the person you watched kill one of your loved ones, or anything like that.
