Serious question: Doesn't the U have a "no guns allowed" policy? I know that there was a big to do about it when that dude went on that shooting rampage at Virginia Tech.
By "more lives" I meant two, as in the number of stabbing victims in this story.
I completely disagree on the ideology part. I'm not interested in arguing the evidence end either, but if you're really interested then you'll be hard pressed to prove guns = higher violence. Americans are more violent than many of our OECD peers but trying to correlate the violence to guns has not only proved futile but it's irrational as a hypothesis. It's actually comical to start arguing guns means violence in a thread about a violent knife attack.
Anyway, this thread is about racism and not guns.
There's no reason to even frame the discussion in such an irrelevant way. Violent people don't need guns to be violent, as illustrated in this article. Ban guns and those who want to commit a violent crime will do it another way. The majority of them already are.

Not only did the man with the cc permit save two lives, he did so without discharging his firearm.
I know, what a shame, right? One less dumbass on the streets would've been A-OK with me.

Fair enough. I guess my main point was I don't see concerns about guns as irrational as some other said, at least not irrational in the sense that opposition to gays and same sex marriage is irrational.
True, violent people don't need guns to be violent, but the fact that they have guns would seem to me to risk increasing the lethality of that violence. I would guess it does increase the risk and the incidence of lethal violence, but then I'm just guessing.

It seems to me that illegal violence committed with firearms is often committed with an illegally obtained firearm (convicted felon in possession of a firearm purchased illegally). Therefore I'm skeptical that banning all firearms would lead to a drop in violent crime.
Have you questioned the reasoning leading up to your apparent fear of guns?

What??? Why would I be pissed?? This story is just the one I was looking for. Someone who owned a gun, and helped handle a situation without discharging it - and/or killing someone. It was also a relatively dangerous situation too, and the other person had a weapon. As much as I'd enjoy seeing someone use fists of fury and/or nunchucks in public, I think it's excellent this hero handled it exactly the way he did.
A lot more than we can say for the murderer George Zimmerman. He volunteered for a job looking for a chance to dishcarge his big, bad intimidiating gun, and took the first chance he got. I can't wait to celebrate Zimmerman's death. I may be cynical, but I do believe there is hope our gene pool will one day be rid of the Zimmerman's and his adamant supporters.
Thanks to the original poster for sharing a great story of real heroism. It happened naturally. To Stoked, Trout and the rest of the posters who have a perverse obsession with justifying Zimmerman's actions - this is how it's supposed to be handled. Plus the person even had a knife. Trayvon had a pack of skittles. No one died in the scenario with a gun and knife, but someone did with a gun and skittles.
