I find it ironic that one of the criticisms of Ty Corbin was that he only hired his friends on his staff. Now DL is hiring all of his friends. Ty's friends were former players. Dennis' friends are old spurs and rockets d league coaches and video coordinators.
A little disingenuous to ignore the experience that Dennis' hires have had as head coaches or assistant coaches.
Sanders was a career assistant coach, with occasional stints as HC in the USBL and CBA. He came to Utah in a player development role and then moved up. Lowe was unsuccessful as a HC in the NBA (granted he coached for two terrible franchises in Minnesota and Vancouver/Memphis) and had a decent, but unremarkable record at NC State.
I'd say Wells has about the same pedigree as Sanders, minus the stints as head coach of insignificant, third-tier minor league teams.
Corbin led a pretty sheltered life as a coach, spending one year in player development in NY (under Scott Layden), before Sloan hired him as an assistant. Snyder's career has been much broader and he's really worked himself back into the game after his dismissal from Missouri.
Do coaches hire those they already know? Yes, they do. But really, the only true Corbin hire was Lowe. Ty didn't have very many contacts outside the organization. Sanders & Jones were both brought in by the GM via the player development route and then promoted. Hornacek, of course, was working as AK's shooting coach and then stepped in as FT assistant. Scotty had been around the block before in Utah and has a famous daddy. I have no problem with DL bringing in his friends/acquaintances. Jones & Jensen have solid resumes. On the player development side, Bryant is not a DL "friend;" he had a training business and started to work with Price and Millsap, IIRC. That's what brought him into contact with the Jazz organization.
