What's new

Why are we playing at such a slow pace?

Hayward is magnificent in the open court and transition. Jazz are probably trying to get him on the cheap, tbh.

Seriously though, I do not understand why, with Favors, Hayward and Burke, we are not running every chance we get. For that matter, Marvin is great in transition as well.

Don't know what schtick you are talking about. I do however enjoy taking the conversation back to the OP in oversimplified terms as a way to hyperbolically point out that the conversation is moving in circles or has otherwise seemed to hit a dead end. Or just because I find it mildly humorous. Sometimes it is ok to have a minor chuckle now and then. Take your pick.

I think it's interesting that you think this conversation has already exhausted itself. I mean, it isn't like this is a central issue to the outcome of the games we've played. It's all a sidebar.

I'm sure this has been mentioned (I only got through the first 10 or so posts..) but coaches that expect to lose/be outmanned tend to want to slow the pace of play, keep the scores low and keep it close hoping to pull out a close game. The more you run, the more possessions, the more likely you could be blown out.. which is bad for job security.

JLIII + Kanter gassed + injury returns
Remember, this is an avg across all games including the JL3 for 30 min games. I wouldn't be surprised if the pace has picked up with our new starting lineup and with Trey

I mean, a defensive rebound starts the break, so these issues are related.

*We have two great rebounders in Favors and Kanter.
*Burke, Hayward, and Burks can all handle it in the open court. And, they can finish in transition
Favors and Kanter are also poor passers, so they're not good candidates to trigger a break with an outlet pass. On top of that, Kanter has been underwhelming on the boards this year; Favors is rebounding at the same per-minute rate as last season, but Kanter is at 75% of his last season's rate - shoulder problem still? Overall, we rank #30 in number of Defensive rebounds (which is probably related to our #28-ranked defensive FG% - you can't rebound a made shot). Plus steals are another way of triggering a break, and we are below-average in that area too. The best way we can increase our pace and improve our scoring is improve our defence. And we should be a good defensive team, we have a team of good defensive players.

We need Kevin Love outlet passing...

This isn't just Kevin Love. Watch Corey Brewer and Kevin Martin - as soon as the shot goes up, they're gone. When Love does rebound the ball, that's his first look. That's the transition philosophy put in by the coach. There is a cost, though, as this clip doesn't show the extra o-boards and points the Wolves give up, but that's the risk you take. For the Wolves, the balance is positive.
