Why Are You a Jazzfanzer?

**** **** **** I forgets the hopper ainitnuttin. Best thing since MP3, which is better t.han sliced bread.

Don't infraction me k.

I was looking for a place to talk Jazz basketball (I used to post on the usenet group alt.sport.basketball.nba.jazz, or it was similar to that name, but with the proliferation of the web usenet groups started to die out). Ran across RealGM and it was the first place to have a fairly active user base. At the time this site was part of RealGM, then Jason took the site on his own and I followed it (though I still post on RealGM as well).

Same exact story for me. Got involved with the alt.sport.whatever newsgroup and with realgm while trying to find people to converse with about Jazz stuff (I lived in California). Then came here with Jason and other founding members when the Big Realgm Split happened. Got asked to be a moderator a year or two later.

P.S. I didn't know you were an alt.sport.basketball.nba.jazz guy, Nate... do you remember me from there at all? I posted under "John Colton"* I believe. What was your username there?

* ...which was cause for some confusion because there was also a "Jon Colton" if I recall correctly who was fairly abrasive, judging by how some people reacted to me at the time.

Trout used to live across the street from me. He would talk about it a little (okay, a LOT). Then they had a night out to a game GVC even came down and camped out at his house. I went and played ball with them and met a few more peeps from here and so I joined up.

I remember that day. Trying to remember who else played, and I'm drawing a blank. Me, bigb, Conan, GVC, Trout... Who else? My memory is so horrible.

I joined after searching for Jazz News one day and this site came up. There used to be a section where people could write editorials, so I submitted one. Jason thanked me and said I'd probably get more feedback if I posted in the forums, so I started to.

I'm similar to Bronco. My enthusiasm has virtually died, but I still do go to a few games a year, and the discussions in General Discussion used to be quite good and fun. Lots of deep subjects with serious, well thought out responses in an interesting debate. A good example would be the "Flat Tax and Tithing" thread right now. back in the day we had a minimum of 1/2 a dozen of those types of threads going at any given time. I have hope things will become that active and cerebral again.

John ******* Stockton.

This guy was given nothing, he had to earn it. He didn't cry about playing time, not getting the calls, or a huge contract.. he just accepted it.

I remind myself every day that I'm not going to be given anything.. I've got to earn it. It's a little easier to accept that I'm going to have to earn it knowing that it can be done.

This. Any fantasy team I create starts at PG with John Stockton.

I blame Boozer. When Cleveland announced they couldn't match the offer sheet, I read through some Cavs boards and one of them linked to JF. That's what got me to the site but it was the posters like Pearl, Tater, SeattleJazzFan, Kicky, Catzies, and others who kept me here. Then other great posters like Jazzgal, JohnDeereJerry, and OSR joined, Bordy stopped lurking and started posting, and then a bomb was dropped on the site when Trout joined. From there, it took off.

Edit: I forgot to mention the very polarizing LTV. I was always a fan and still enjoy his tweets.

Damn I was drunk last night... Think I still am. But to justify

And I take it all back, I hate all you felchers.

Ahh, I thought there was a deal in the works on that.

one for me and one for my homie

Blame Archibald for that one. I offered to buy it outright and run it, but he balked. Something about the "legacy of the site" or some nonsense. I guess the three people who bother to post over there didn't want their six or so active threads to be tainted.

Wait... You? Drunk? On a school night?

I tried posting there for a while, but there just wasn't enough going on.

I needed a source for my jazz info during the summer of 2009... I was visiting family in South Africa and went to the Internet cafe everyday to check JazzFanz and see if we had traded boozer!!

When I got back from South Africa that fall I just lurked.... Almost started an account two weeks before Jerry stepped down, Cuz some girl at my college claimed that Jerry asked the FO it was either him or Deron... My buddy and I laughed at her Cuz it was only like a week after the miracle in Miami and I thought it would be a good thread to open up with... If I only knew...

Then after everything went down, that April I decided to join!!!

There have been good times on this board. I've flown out to 3 (or is it 4...I want to say 4 actually) Jazz games with other people here, including both Stockton and Malone's retirement jersey ceremonies. Got to sit on the court for Malones.

Forgot about that Nite Out! Good times.

My brother introduced me to the site. He was mainly a lurker and would never tell me his user name. But I started posting and he got on me a little for some risqué jokes and posts, so I changed my name and never told him my new one. Great mention of the old-timers, YB. I was co-champion of a board contest back in the days on picks/FA ideas to rebuild the team. That got me some kudos and I started posting a lot more, although I really took some heat back then for being one of the first to suggest trading AK.
