Why did Hayward suck so bad in the playoffs?

All I remember from that Spurs series is me screaming at the tv and my wife getting mad at me for throwing out F Bombs. But I wanna torture myself again and need reminding of why he sucked so bad.

Because this is seriously the worst stat line ever for a player averaging 30 min a game for 4 games. Not to mention the playoffs.

So refresh my memory and talk me off the ledge. Thanks.

He completely choked other than game 1, and that was only because the Spurs were getting handsy with him and sent him to the line 12 times.

He played incredible the first game from what I remember.
He had spurts. Incredible spurts where he would lead the Jazz offense and get them back in the game. But whenever the Jazz made a run, Al got PnRaped and someone made a 3.

The Spurs manhandled the Jazz. And by manhandled, I mean rape-handled. I think it was too much to take, both mentally and physically, on the defensive end. On the offensive end, Gordon was only being asked to pass it to Big Al who had nothing on Duncan.

He shot 18% from the field, whatever "spurts" he had were very short lived.

inb4AlHate...oh nm.

That's your magic pill though Beaner. Gather your hatred for all things Corbin/Jefferson and Gordon's performance will seem trivial.

Are people seriously putting this on Al? The guy sucked because he did. He's young. Could not hit an open three for the life of him, he choked. Still has a high ceiling, and I still have great hopes for him. I'm sure he'll be using his nightmare of a Statline as motivation for next season.

In what bizarre universe is everything not Al's fault?

1st time in the playoffs against a good defensive team that was dominating the whole team. It's not as bad as it seems. Don't forget Kobe's 3 airmails in a sweep against the Jazz. He seems to have gotten over it.

Many of our players seriously declined in the playoffs vs. the spurs

Millsap had the following career playoff worsts last season:

37% shooting
50% FT shooting
TO% (12.8%)
AST% (2.7)
PER (11.5)
Offensive rating (87)
Offensive Win Shares (-0.2)
Overall Win Shares/48 mins (-0.058)

a better question to ask is why did almost every jazz player suck so bad

It's called...

THE SPURS.

Greg Pop >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ty Corbin/J-slo

Pop and P. Jackson are our daddys. We're always outcoached.

I had third row seats in that game where Kobe kept chucking the airballs. Man, that was awesome!

Someone ought to post a Kobe vs. Gordon comparison of their stats in their first playoff series. I have no idea what it will look like... yet somehow I know that the similarities will be eerie. I expect it to prove we have the next Kobe on our hands.

mid-may called, and they want their discussion thread back.

in all honesty, i'm not worried about hayward's playoff choke job... it's exactly why i wanted the jazz to make the playoffs this year, even at the cost of a draft pick. guys are bound to struggle on some level with their first exposure to playoff-level basketball, and getting that experience and those jitters behind a young team just means we have less to worry about next april. don't get me wrong, hayward sucked even harder than i thought he would, but he is a 21-year-old kid with plenty of chances to get better.

put another way: would you rather have hayward shooting 18% in a 2012 series with the spurs where we realistically weren't going to win anyway, or in a 2013/14 series where we have a legitimate shot at advancing? guys in this league generally have to learn to succeed, it doesn't just happen.

As long as he uses it as motivation to improve I'm ok.

If it gives him a career long case of the yips then I'm not ok.

The funny thing is, he still played better against the Spurs in his first year in the playoffs being paid a rookie's salary than AK did in his prime while being paid the max.

Heck, at least Hayward didn't have to leave the team to get a new visa so he could vacation.

well that's not at all true... but if your point is not to worry and that hayward will get better, i agree.
