Why does everyone think Milsap will accept a bench role?

Mission Accomplished

Because I think he has worked his tail off since his rookie year. Improved every year by doing all that the coaching staff has asked and more. Now why would you think he will sit behind a second year player. I don't want to admit this but if we are going to bench him we might as well trade him. He can accept a bench role but why would he if he can be a starter on at least 5 other teams.

If you arent the best player at your spot, you accept bench role.

Agreed. Also stated in another thread that Paul Millsap also is the 8th worst defender in the whole NBA, WOW! And just to add at 6'7" and thats being nice...is not a starting power forward on a playoff team in the Western conference, I love Paul's heart and desire and his skillset, but dang it he is just to short to be a starting power forward unless he has a 7 footer next to him with an pretty accomplished defensive game and those are hard to come by.

I don't think he will accept a bench role. To me that means the Jazz just aren't the right team for him. He's the right 6th man for the Jazz, I just don't think he'll take it.

Who cares is he accepts it or not? If he does, great, we have a terrific sixth man. If he doesn't, great, we have a very valuable trade asset. The real question is whether or not KOC can figure out how Millsap will react before the rest of the league does (thereby hurting his trade value).

What if Favors isn't Dwight Howard. What was his career high? What was Milsap's rookie career high?

ARe we as Jazz fans putting irrelistic expectations on an 18 year old that probably is going to take 2 or 3 years to develop?

I would rather start Milsap and Jefferson then give Favors the minutes backing up those two positions. That is only if we don't draft another PF/C.

I also think that EVans is SF. There are plenty of long athletic SF. He is not thick enough for the PF position.

This is how I feel. I have also stated this repeatedly. It's why it is my belief that Millsap should be traded.

Being a sixth man requires a certain mindset and if he doesn't approach the role with the proper mindset he will not help the team. The Jazz will probably get more of a net gain if they trade him before putting him on the bench. Trying to trade him if he has played uninspired basketball for a full season will only decrease his trade value. Of course I'm assuming he won't accept the sixth man role, but if he does it will be a major plus for the Jazz.

I can see the FO and Millsap agreeing to a trade, but I think they are several steps away from that conclusion. There is one thing that is for sure: the jazz don't want to trade him. You don't give up players that can close games like him or guys that bring his leadership.

I don't think Sap is the kind of guy to go crying to the media and let it affect his game if he is moved to the bench. If he is upset I see him quietly asking for a trade.

Because fans have this idea that their favorite players are these completely noble and unselfish creatures.

Kinda like how Deron was a leader?
Or that Millsap will accept a bench role?
Or that AK would become the 03-04 version because of this contract year?

Millsap won't accept a bench role. Especially if the player is much younger, like Favors. He might have kept quiet under Sloan. But under Corbin, I'd give this maybe 30 games before we'd have to unload Millsap via trade.

Isn't this the same problem the Jazz are always going to have Milsap is the type of player that will stick around. Yet, we are going to try and bend over backwards for an unknown 18 yr old talent. Who if he becomes a star is going to be on the first train out of here. I don't see us being able to keep him. Heck, I think that if Gordon has his way he will end up in IND also. That is why we should keep the hard working blue collar guys. Wes would have stayed loyal, Brewer would have stayed, and Milsap will stay as long as KOc doesn't treat him like crap.

Why do you think that? Not every NBA player in the league wants to go back to his hometown. Most of them prefer $ and winning.

Of course everyone is being heavily optimistic and somewhat unrealistic about Favors and even Haywards future play. But next year's team is not going to benefit from relegating Favors (or Hayward) to a bench role. They will not develop as fast as they will playing against starting caliber players (and more minutes) and we will not win any more games by using this strategy, not enough to make a real difference anyway - it is not like it will be the difference between the number 8 seed and the number 3 o 4, more likely the difference between pick #9 and #12. We are in a unique position the Jazz have really never been, having potentially several lottery picks with a team in rebuild so you can actually play those lottery picks substantial time to accelerate their development. Just gotta do it.

I think Gordon is a different type of player. Did you see the fan fare when we played in IND. He went to Butler, he seems like the kind of guy that has an attachment to his family, and the area. I just don't think it is good that the Jazz organization or fans start putting our eggs into one basket of unknowns.

If we would have made some wiser moves Dwill and Sloan would still be here and we would have made it to the playoffs. I'm not talking about smoozing Boozer. I'm talking about looking at our role players and finding those that are Jazz type players. So, by trading Milsap or moving him to the bench just because we expect Favors to have a higher upside is plain ridiculous.

Giving them minutes in not a problem. I don't think that when after the team started to tank anyone could say that they didn't get enough minutes. But, even if you go back to the time when Dwill was a young back up it was a completely different situation. Dwill was behind Milt Palacio and Keith McCloud hardly two names that anyone will remember in 5 years. So, with Dwill as the 3rd pick he needed the minutes.

If we also go by potential shown in minutes wouldn't we have to consider that Evans would have even more potential than Favors. Because most of the time that Evans was out on the court he was efficient.

Millsap works for the Jazz. He is an employee. I expect him to do as he's told and like it, or be traded. The choice is his.
