I'd rather not rummage around just to find a link, but I'm positive they sent Alex Jensen (assistant coach), a trainer, and maybe even a massage therapist with Rudy to France. They did the same stuff w/ Exum, Neto, and Pleiss last year. Not sure if Neto got it again this year.
Found it. Thanks.
You're not a pessimist CL; you're a realist. Rudy didn't show any development last season. His shooting was actually worse. He is what he is: a rim protector and rebounder, who is only reliable for put backs and alley-oops on offense. And, tbh, he's not that great a rebounder. He gets them because of his length, but can often get pushed out of position or underneath the net by stronger, aggressive opponents.
Whatever came of the supposed conyract talks between DL and his agent? Jazz may feel they have no choice, but DL will probably end up paying max to 3 players who are just fringe or even non-Allstars.
It's pretty hard to develop your game when you spend every summer playing for a national coach who couldn't care less about your NBA career. We need Gobert to bulk up and develop some (any) offensive skill. The French coach isn't going to have him long enough to do a thing for his strength or shot, so he will just make do with Gobert as a skinny rim protector. And that is all Rudy will be to the Jazz until he decides to take his off-season training seriously and quit wasting his summers playing for his national team.

I think people just got their expectations way too high after his breakout year, which was essentially his rookie season with how little he played under Corbin his actual rookie year. He hit a slump this year (not to mention a knee injury) and people see that he spent time with France this season and automatically assume that the time spent with the French team caused the lackluster season (even though he was still true to his calling card of being a top rim protector).
The last thing Rudy needs to do is bulk up. He needs to remain as quick and bouncy as he can, which is maybe average right now. We don't need to slow him down or more prone to injury.
From the start of last season to the very end, he was not the Rudy we saw during his breakout year. That isn't a slump, that's regression. Now you may be correct in saying it had nothing to do with playing for his national team, but if that's the case then I guess CL is right saying Rudy is what he is.
Nah, he was still Rudy. Still had the best rim protection numbers in the NBA. He was slowed by a knee injury (also the whole becoming a full time starter vs starting to get major minutes halfway through the season and having more developed scouting reports against him), that was really the only difference. Sophomore slumps are a common thing, it's not regression by any means.

His regression had three parts: (1) injury recovery (2) gameplanning offenses around him and (3) actual regression. He did not have the same energy or enthusiasm for the game.
0 actual regression.
