No Cousins will make it and they wont take 3 centers, Hayward hopefully though.

I don't like it either and hope I'm wrong obviously.

actually i am conflicted sure gobert deserves it. but if he get snuffed he might go on a TEAR and hold opposing teams to 50 points per game all by himself. and of course he could use a vacation he has not missed 1 game so far

All Star games are all about scoring and showtime
Nobody plays defense
What fun would Gobert be for fans
He would knock all of the east allstars out for the season

Kevin Pelton wrote an article about who should be the all-star reserves after the starters were announced. He has Gobert getting in as the second of three front-court players (behind Draymond but above Cousins) and has Hayward getting in on the very last wild card spot (over Klay).

Here is what he had to say about Gobert:

It's interesting that Jazz fans seem to have focused their campaigning on Gordon Hayward for an All-Star spot ahead of Gobert. That's understandable given Hayward's seniority and possibly pragmatic, given he'll be an unrestricted free agent next summer, while Gobert just signed a four-year extension. But I wouldn't agree.

Gobert fares better by most value stats -- he's got 8.2 WARP to Hayward's 6.2 and 6.5 RPM wins to Hayward's 4.6. And Utah has played better with just Gobert on the court (plus-6.1 points per 100 possessions) than just Hayward (minus-2.4).

Gobert is the leader at the turn for Defensive Player of the Year and has developed into an elite finisher who's shooting 66.2 percent from the field. He's been the best center in the league in my book and is a deserving All-Star.

Here is what he had to say about Hayward:

The last spot on my 12-man roster came down to Hayward vs. Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, two players in very different roles.

While Thompson has been content to feast on the shots set up by his three All-Star teammates this season (85.8 percent of his field goals have been assisted, per Basketball-Reference.com, second to J.J. Redick among players in the top 100), Hayward has carried an injury-riddled Jazz team (just 51.6 percent of his field goals have been assisted).

In that context, the fact that Hayward has actually been more efficient (.605 true shooting percentage) than Thompson (.584) is remarkable. Thompson's pedestrian value stats (1.8 WARP, 1.4 RPM) surely understate his value as an individual defender and floor spacer, but there's no way they understate it enough to make up the gap with Hayward.

Pelton has Paul getting in and said it's better to vote him in and replace him then to leave him out entirely.

agree. That's why I've been pretty quiet about this all-star stuff. Hayward is getting the nod for political and sentimental reasons. Gobert is the bigger difference maker; and in a world where all-star appearances reflected merit, Gobert is clearly our top guy.

I've always liked Chris Broussard...

My West All-Star reserves: Russell Westbrook, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, LaMarcus Aldridge, DeMarcus Cousins, Marc Gasol, Gordon Hayward

According to the guys at Inside the NBA, Gobert gets snubbed. By what metric has Cousins had a better year than Gobert? Gobert has the best stats of any center in the league. Hayward only gets in on Shaqs' list. A couple of them picked Chris Paul which I don't understand (injured). In any event, if we get shut out (or Gobert gets snubbed which seems probable), I hope we use this as motivation down the stretch.

If my knowledge about those new CBA contracts is correct, we should hope Hayward stays off the all star team and an all nba team, so he doesn't gain eligibility to get those super max contracts with a lot of length. Unless that's the only way he wants to stay in Utah, but in that case we're better off retooling anyways I think.

I've read that AS does not count.
.....All-NBA, DPOY or MVP the previous season.
.....All-NBA team or DPOY in 2/3 previous seasons
.....MVP once in the previous three seasons

Links are always appreciated.

So far, all the info I've seen has been somewhat speculative as to how things change, but doesn't provide details of exact changes. In the last CBA, making starter in AS or all NBA twice qualifies.

https://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q60

The salary in the first year of an extension to a rookie scale contract (other than for a team's Designated Player) may be any amount up to the player's maximum. This is usually the 0-6 year maximum, which is based on 25% of the salary cap (see question number 16). However, a player may receive up to the 7-9 year maximum, which is based on 30% of the cap, if he meets any of the following criteria (called the "5th Year 30% Max criteria"):

-Named to the All-NBA First, Second or Third team at least twice

-Voted as a starter in the All-Star game at least twice

-Named the NBA Most Valuable Player at least once

Demarcus carries an average offence and Rudy carries an elite defence. The league recognises one more than the other.

Yeah, I've lost all respect for those TNT jokers. Not a single word about Gobert and barely mention Utah being where they are despite being slammed by injuries.

**** those guys.

I'm not too worried about it. Those guys are on the same level as bill Simmons for me. Entertaining but not really in tune with the real NBA landscape.

They don't watch the nba, they work one night a week and casually watch big games than prep for their lone night of work.
