Will Okur improve our Rebounding?

I would contend that having a player that drives to the hoop and misses leads to far more fastbreak points going the other way.

But anyway, we agree on some things. I haven't nor will I ever be a fan of the transition 3.

Someone should inform these hall of fame coaches that they're doing it wrong. The 3-pt shot should be treated like sex with a complete stranger you find vomiting in a gutter somewhere.

That is the biggest cop out people use. When you say that an expert could never be wrong. Its pathetic. If they were never wrong than NBA forums wouldn't exist and we wouldn't be discussing what our teams are going right or wrong on boards.

Your missing everything I am saying. Your only hearing what you want to hear. Lakers, Spurs both are teams that try to work it into the paint and if they get doubled than they shoot the 3. Guys like Gasol and Duncan allow that.

Deron and Memo do a pick and pop first before we even try to work it into the paint.

Its a combination of settling for 3 point shots before we go into the paint and also teh long rebound which does lead to a semi fast break.

The good teams work it into the paint first. And than kick it out for a 3. Deron and Memo go for the 3 first when they play together. It makes our offense less efficient and it makes out transition defense worse with a long rebound. Deron proves this every game he gets a long rebound.

I actually don't hate Memo as a player it was more I hate when Memo is in the game and Deron is on a semi fast break and he would throw it back to Memo for a 3 rather than work it into the paint for an easier shot.

Memo is a good man to man defender and he is good at boxing out. He is a good outside shooter but I also wish memo would do the pick and pop for a mid range shot rather than a 3. It would make us more efficient because it gives us more options. When it is a pick and pop for a 3 it sometimes can limit us when we do it every time. Deron and Memo need to mix it up a little and go back in forth between the 3 and the mid range. The 3 point shot is way overrated and it leads to long rebounds and bad transition defense. Something Earl Watson talked about the Jazz being so bad at for so many years. We need to limit that from happening.

I think we are a better defensive team this year because we are taking less 3 point shots. We are trying to get into the paint more with Millsap and Jefferson. If we go back to trying to set up Okur before we go into the paint our transition defense will suffer. The 3 point shot should come after we worked it into the paint. The 3 point shot should not be the first option like we use Okur. That is my problem with him on the court we rely on him too much rather than a role player.

I think you're overreacting on this matter. Memo's transition threes do not drive Sloan crazy, and they are RARE. I do not defend shooting threes in transition offense and you're absolutely right that long shoots have better chance of creating long rebs but if that was so important that it causes you to question shoot selectios of one of the most unselfish players on this roster and complaining about Memo taking 1-2 threes in transition, I call total BS. If we start to talk about bad shot selections, we could not finish the day because of not being able to determine the number of ill-advised shots Miles have attempted. You have had Carlos shooting high arching Js and fadeways over Gasol etc, or him taking elbow Js around 15-18 feet when you have Okur or somebody open at corners, You have had Paul trying crossover, which is fundamentally a bad idea. You have had Ronnie getting out of control and becoming a momentum builder or changer. The fact is, Okur has been the most reliable 3pt shooter of the Jazz who characteristically do not take many threes in ballgames.

Back to main topic, the Jazz now have outrebounded Pacers after Bucks. It's a good sign, I'm pleased with players putting more effort on rebounding and the fact that AK has been active on boards, which is essential. CJ is big and he has the ability to rebound and he has the body, physical advantage against many 2s and 3s in the league which should help him box out opponents. AS players gets more and more comfortable in system, the Jazz overcome, correct their mistakes, deficiencies. Against Dallas, we will see if our bigs can dominate over Dirk, Haywood and Chandler. It will be a big test.
