Currently the Jazz are positioned a 1/2 game behind Memphis for the 8th seed. So here again are the shakeups that will affect the current positioning.

-Denver basically has a new team

-Portland adds Gerald Wallace

-OKC swaps Green for Perkins

I like the Jazz's positioning. They of course need to win some games but they have a good shot to make it in.

Why do we want them to? Jazz clearly need help. Make the playoffs and they get swept in the 1st round by SA and forfeit their pick to Minnesota. Miss the playoffs and they get at least the 14th pick in addition to NJ's. Those two might be parlayed into a higher pick, or you could use NJ's and then package the 14th to get a wing.

I would rather give up that pick this year, we dont need two more rookies coming in next season.

I hope they do, and I tell you why... you don't want young players to get used to losing. I say we try everything and even a 8th seed and a first round exit still are success for this group of guys. Jefferson and Harris are both from losing team and you need to get the winning mindset in their heads.

I personally do hope we play well and make the playoffs. It's not likely at this point, but I would rather our guys (mainly Favors and Al) get some playoff experience then own the 14th pick in a weak draft.

I'm all for making the playoffs. We already have 3 rookies on the team and will be drafting a 4th no matter what. Let's make the playoffs and see if we can at least win a home game. Making the playoffs in the west is a great achievement and I think it would do wonders for the confidence of the coaches, players and management.

I don't think they will, but then I haven't seen how Harris/Favors will preform (and how the rest of the team will preform with them).

Their schedule isn't all that favorable. Hopefully Memphis slides. I love watching the Jazz in the playoffs, even if they most likely will get killed in the first round.

Certainly hope not, they need the pick. The rest of this season needs to be about getting the young guys minutes. Hayward, Evans, Fesenko, and Favors. Bell should not be seeing much time on the court.

I hope they make it, too, but right now I'd be happy if our new coach could find a way to win a game.

I'm also curious to see if there is a team leader now that Deron's gone. Devin Harris? I doubt it. AK, no. Big Al? Doesn't seem the type. And I'm sure Raja's heard he's heading to Minnesota this summer.

Can someone please confirm whether or not we own our pick this year?
The Jazz' pick is top 16 protected this year, so it's possible to make the playoffs and have the #15 or #16 pick...best of both worlds.

Here's the rundown on the full protection of the pick owed to Minnesota: "2011 – top 16 protected, 2012 – top 14 protected, 2013 – top 16 protected, 2014 – Minnesota has right to swap first round picks with Jazz (top 9 protected) OR Minnesota will receive the Jazz’s 2014 second round pick to complete the deal."

Well I don't see them making it. Both Portland and OKC got better. Denver has a lot of new guys and are already 2-0. I think Denver is the team that is going to surprise everyone because they have a lot of talent and they no longer have to deal with the Carmelo drama. Memphis has been playing great and add Battier. Once Gay gets back they will be a tough eight seed.

The biggest reason why I feel the Jazz won't make the playoff is because they have shown zero toughness the last 17 games. I am excited about Harris and Evans but remember the Jazz lost DW production so how are they going to be that much better. Oh yea I forgot AK is finally set free.. :D The tough schedule doesn't help. I wouldn't be surprised if the Jazz dropped a couple spots. I am more concerned about get our young guys playing time and developing a style of play. The Jazz can always use more talent because our bench is horrible and who knows which veterans are going to be back.

I rather have two more rookies than bring back Price, Elson and even Fess or CJ. I hope the Jazz can trade CJ/Bell for a nice wing or picks. If we are going to rebuild then lets follow OKC way of rebuilding.
