Will the Jazz use the Okur TPE this season?

Also when does it expire?

I'm assuming the Jazz will wait until the trade deadline to use it but I hope it's used this season. The Jazz are only getting better and I think could be competitive for a playoff spot if the we can get a quality player for the TPE.

Anyway I'm hoping KOC will use it soon.

Definitely could be some teams wanting to jettison some players by the trade deadline if they are not in contention and get them off their books.

1- Today is probably the closest the Jazz will get to a playoff spot.

2- IF Utah uses the TPE, it will be because they are moving Al and have to take back more salary than they are giving.

1- False, with a shorten season and injuries, the playoffs will be a close race and we can already see this happening.

2- You just pulled that out of your butt.

Somehow I doubt it. Unless we're using it to take a contract and also receive a future asset (like OKC did to us with Maynor) I don't see why the Jazz would use it.

I would hope they are agressive in looking for ways to use it to improve the team. But they should always be doing that with any asset that they have.

So they've got a whole year to do something -- lots of time.
I'm on board with picking up more young guys... if they use it to get a pick , or move up in the draft, or pick up another young player with potential, I'm all for it.

The chances of them using it are stacked in the favor of them doing what they have always done, and standing pat. They had a trade exception from Harpring and never used it, they have a trade exception according to trade machine on ESPN from the Deron Williams trade and are not going to use that one either because they have never mentioned anything about it, but they used the one from Carlos Boozer and that was out of desperation at one last chance to see if Deron would commit to being here. So my guess as they would lead us to believe that they have been a lot more active then they have been in years past but really they haven't. I have just came to the conclusion this franchise is ok with just getting into the playoffs and that's it or else they would be more aggressive in to letting these young rookies grow together with more playing time but they are afraid of having one bad season to let that happen cause it will mean less money in their pockets.

If they were serious about winning championships they would pull triggers on trades like Shawn Marion for Andrei Kirilenko, or be more aggressive in trade our house to have front court of Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins for many years to dominate the NBA, with Enes Kanter coming off the bench as our third big but they won't do that because everyone is afraid to take a chance on a kid like DeMarcus but they say they are taking chances on Tinsley and Howard for examples but these guys are a lot older then Cousins and it's a lot less of a risk for them to take a chance on those two older guys because if they screw up once they are done.

Seems like we would have to give up some our young players to get Cousins dont you think?

Actually, I don't think that they would have to at all. They could offer a good big man as well as an expiring contract with a couple of second round draft picks.

They'll use it this off-season. I doubt they will use it mid-season, unless they are in the playoff hunt and real player is out there that can help get them in, like an Antwan Jamison.

Different factors in each case...
* Harpring TPE - they were tax payers at the time. They could have used the TPE on a $6M player and it would have cost them $12M. They aren't a tax-paying team now, so this won't prevent them from using the TPE.
* Deron TPE - I believe it's about $1.8M, which is nearly worthless because there are few players making less than that, and how many of them are on the trading block? Still a possiblity that they use it, but it's hardly a major piece that you will hear discussed in the media or by KOC. The Memo piece is a major asset.
* Boozer TPE - I don't think they used it as a last ditch effort to keep Deron, they used it because a deal came up that made sense and they were able to use it.

If the Jazz had kept Memo, they could have traded him through the deadline this year. With the TPE, they have far more options, and can effectively trade him through next December. This tells me that they are hoping to get something out of Memo, but they weren't sure they could do it by February so they opted for the flexibility. I expect that they want to use it, but it will still be conditional on the specific deals they are offered / can negotiate.
