Personally, I really do not want Jefferson and Biendris to see a minute on the floor next year. I do like Rush though. He can flat out shoot the ball from 3 and he's a legit 6'6, and will be an upgrade from foye on the defensive end. Also, We do not have Fatterson (Love you Big Al) or the undersized Millsap anymore, and Kanter and Favors look to be big upgrades on the defensive end. I think we are going to be pretty good defensively this year. In fact, I think we'll become a top 10 defensive team. Per 100 possesions, the JAzz allowed only 96 points per possesion last seaso with Kanter and Favors on the floor together (pretty sure that is right, but i might be a tiny bit off). granted, they played often against bench guys, but nevertheless, they are an ungrade over Big Al and Sap.

I like that Lindsey, KOC, and the bunch seem to really have a plan and they are following it. Team is going to look much different, and it seems as though the FO wants to start with defense before moving to offense. It makes sense when you consider Lindsey's quote about a year ago, "I can't wait to see this team play defense."

You have to be a top 10 defensive team to win in this league. The last 4 teams left standing (Memphis, SA, Indy, and Miami ) were ranked 1,2,3,7 defensively. WE have to get better on the defensive side of the ball. I think we were 21st or 23rd this last season.

In 2013-2014 we will not be top 10. In 2014-2015 and on the Jazz have the posibility of being top 10. Defense will take time for them to get into and gel just like other parts of their game.

You may be right, still, I think there is a real chance at top 10 status, I just don't know how we score. Kanter and Burks will likely double their averages and Favors may increase his by 30%, but Hayward could stay around 15 ppg. Could see him getting up to 18 though.

A lot depends on those backup PG minutes. If it's going to be Tinsley playing 18mpg I don't know that we'll crack the top 10.

Also, how much of a contribution will we get from Gobert? That guy by himself could bump us up a few slots if he gets regular mintues.

While the Jazz should be much better defensively this year, I'm not quite sure they crack the top ten this year because of the expected dip in offensive efficiency. Probably will be more turnovers, which are easy points for the other team in the NBA, and probably a bigger issue will be an expected higher percentage of "bad" shots, which are also usually easy points for the other team. Once this team is set in their half-court defense, however, they should be beastly.

This is basically how I feel. Even if the starters defend as well as we hope they can, once you bring in guys like Jefferson and Tinsley(?), you're going to have problems. And we haven't even brought up the question of whether or not Corbin will be able to implement a good defensive scheme.

The Jazz would benefit by adding a defensive specialist and rebounder at the SF position, unless that's what Marvin is supposed to do. However, our defense will be better than last year, both in the frontcourt and backcourt.

As presently constituted, this team will not be top ten in any positive statistic.
So you don't believe that these players with more playing time will develop at all?
.
Because they have the potential to be top 10 in defense and I'd be super surprised if they were not in or close to top 10 in rebounding this next year. As well as in Blocks.
.
This statement to me screams of extreme negativity. If you did not mean it that way pleas enlighten us as to what you did mean.

This roster is not complete for sure. A starting caliber SF still seems to be lacking. I am expecting that to be added next draft and/or off season.

To me, defense is more about scheme than player talent. Mediocre defensive players that commit to a good scheme can be a formidable defense.

Defense is definitely the mother of all questions. The jazz has to force teams to shoot low quality shots and then rebound the ball at an elite level if it wants to win more than 35 games. Corbin NEEDS to make his message about these two things, and have the spine to yank players on these terms.

We won't be top 10 because of our bench, but I hope our starters push us into the top half of the league.

In a lot of cases maybe. But you have to have at least a few players who are excellent at defense all by themselves. You don't have to have 5 great defenders on the floor to be a great defense but at least of few of them must be.

we have gobert and biedrins on our bench

our bench will do fine on defense methinks

only problem is we will have slow backup perimeter players

rush/jefferson/evans probably aren't up to par when it comes to lateral foot speed

which is why we should sign christmas and buycks

nearly every good defensive team, with the exception of miami, has a really good defensive big

chicago has noah

grizz has gasol

spurs have duncan

pacers have hibbert

boston had kg

you dont really need perimeter stoppers but you need 1 guy who is at least above average

Kind of my point. Most good/great defensive teams have a good/great defensive big. There are some that just have tremendous defensive talent at the wings and can sort of make up for inside presence. Like Miami, They don't have the rim protector but their wings are so good at defense that it helps cover that. But they still have a few great defensive players.
