What's new

With the ridiculous money being spent, Jazz should wait 'til 2011 to make a splash.

Purely opinion by my part, but the Matthews deal just cinches it for me.

Getting desperate and signing someone above his value will haunt many of these teams under the new CBA that is likely to happen next year. Jazz could get a boon of players under better contracts and will have a better chance to compete in 2011 than they would in 2010 or 2011 if they sign someone now.

Jazz need to convince Deron Williams of that, however, which I believe isn't that impossible. Deron is a smart man.

I agree.... It's just meaningless to spend too much money to keep or get mediocre or unproven players. %80 of signings so far are not deserved, IMO. The Jazz will win some ballgames, make some noise and make the playoffs with this roster. Aside from Lakers, Thunder and Nuggets, I really do not see a team that is virtually better than the Jazz. Mavs are a balloon. Spurs come to play after all-star break. Now let see with this aging core, whether they could do it again. Also, the injuries might not as effective on the season as a whole as many of us have predicted. Memo hopes to be back opening night. AK will likely skip this year's WC in Turkey. So will Deron. What the Jazz will likely achieve this year with a worse roster is not much different than what our luxury-tax roster did. It hurts our chances to get a lottery pick but a lot of things might be done by using expiring contracts, TPEs.

The Jazz FO and fans should be in a quick rebuilding mood, process, IMHO. Hopefully, in one or two years' time, by doing smart and right moves, the Jazz will become a contender, again.

Seriously. This offseason is nuts. There will be a new CBA. At best, it will be the same, but probably more restrictive. So many teams are going to regret the money they're spending. I never dreamed our TPE's would be so valuable, but I now believe they genuinely will be.

As for this season, I believe the Jazz should take on some risky players on the cheap for one to two year contracts. Grab some guys who are likely busts and see if they bloom late. Not too much lost if they don't pan out.

Beasley. Oh wait.
