Woj: Jazz finalizing contract with German center Tibor Pleiss

This is all ridiculous. When we seem him against NBA level athletes for a few games maybe we can complain about this deal. Doing it now is just silly.

It's not a cheap contract for a guy we don't know will even work out in the league, but it doesn't matter much... it's also not a horrible contract that will hinder us in any major way anyways.
On the other hand, if he were a free agent and at least a serviceable backup, his contract would be 2x that amount.

I think it's a decent contract. Very little risk. $3M is nothing that is going to hinder Utah in the next 3 years from signing other free agents or making trades.

Tiago was a FIRST ROUND PICK! He also was a really good european player unlike Tibor. Bad comparison.

Yep, comparing a 28th pick to a 31st pick is a bad comparison. if it was comparing 28 to 30, different story altogether.

But contracts for first round picks are more or less pre-determined, are they not? (Which is why many good euros are drafted in the second round.)

Pleiss was the 31st overall pick, only a 3 pick difference.

and not only that, but going 31st is more impressive than going 28th. A couple of Euros tend to go with the first pick of the second round, in order to give the drafting franchise more salary flexibility in terms of buy-outs and contract (see the Nikola Pekovic instance-- he was a lottery talent who's contract specifics made him go 31st).

Also, this contract is a complete ****ing steal. Lol, Pleiss making almost as much as Tomic. **** that dude.

He did not fit with Barca, but they were very excited to get him. Year prior with Laboral (same league) he averaged 12.7 ppg with a 59.7% fg%, 6.5 rebounds per game and 1.2 blocks per game.

Even at Barca he shot over 60% from the field. Not fair to claim he was not a good European center. Him and Tomic were the 2 centers in Europe (Tomic considered the best).

It's a good contract... right where we should expect it to be.

Exactly, and I think Tiago Splitter didn't come earlier because of his restrictions. Tibor probably wasn't a first rounder in large part because of Splitter.
