Woj: Joe Ingles is finalizing deal to return to the Utah Jazz

Invite Joe to join Rudy, Quin, Dennis, Gayle, and John Stockton in their meeting with Gordon.
Might as well invite Brad Stevens to the Jazz meeting as well...at this point, if Stevens really cares about what's best for his former player, even he'll acknowledge that returning to the Jazz is the best thing for Hayward.

So how much could Jazz still offer Hill to stay under luxury tax cap

I'm hearing on twitter from various Jazz reporters that Hill era is over (not sure if this is direct Jazz communication or their hunches).

I worry this contract becomes a Allen Crabbe/Leonard type of deal very quickly... At least it seems like he made us a discount after getting some higher offers. I can live with it, especially if it helps retain Hayward in any way.

I would have preferred 3 years 12 million but I guess being the star player's buddy gets you more money.

12 million per or 12 million over 3 years?

Just curious to know so I can tell if you're nitpicking or if you've been locked in a cave for 3 years and didn't notice the massive jump in the cap.

If you're saying 12 per for 3 years, then yeah, that would be better. However, a really good 3&D player like Joe is a hot commodity nowadays, and I'd bet lefty that Joe could have signed an offer sheet for around 15 per. He probably gave us a discount by signing with us instead of waiting to sign an offer sheet somewhere else. When a player does that, you don't try to squeeze to them for as much as you can. Take the discount and be happy.

Crabbe makes 18 million compared to Joe's 13, and Crabbe's deal is compounded by the fact they have 2 other terrible contracts.

The 4th year isn't ideal, no doubt, but I'd still rather have Joe at 13 than Crabbe at 18.

I didn't say they are absolutely equal. But it has the potential to become bad IMO. Ingles just had his career year at age 29 when he bumped his % to 44-45% form 3. He has never shot over 40% in his career. It's only natural for him to regress some. And he also turned himself into an above average defender, which again will probably wane with him getting into his 30s.

Its just common sense

Nope. If you could add Hill for a reasonable amount, that's a tradable contract that could help you add an asset by dumping him at the deadline. Could acquire another pick and still avoid the tax. You can't pick up a player of that caliber otherwise, because we are over the cap.

However, I do believe Hill is done in Utah, as I think there is some bad blood. Not sure exactly why(could be one of several reasons), but there is a poster here that said something about it before the Rubio trade(forget his name).
