I will say the same thing I said when we were talking about Gobert - put some respect on Donovan's name. We are talking about a 3 time All-Star who is 25 years old and has 3 more years on his contract. He was the driving force of the best offense in the league this year and top 5 offense last year on the best team in the regular season. Stop entertaining dumb low ball offers that the GMs of those teams would dream about paying for a player of that quality. Aim high! Act like Mitchell is actually the winning player that he is and the offensive initiator that he is. I know the past year or two's frustrations with this team were tough to swallow but neither Mitchell, nor Gobert were the main culprits for it. They were the main reasons we were winning at all.

Now... imagine you are Danny Ainge and ask yourself - what's the offer I would accept for 3 time all-star who is 25 years old and has 3 more years under contract? Hint - the offers START at 4 unprotected+ swaps... and then you add other auxiliary pieces to make salaries and value work.

I think the deal we are chasing is the Knicks picks unprotected.... I am not so sure they will just offer them up.... their other picks are fine but have protections that will limit the upside. I'd rather have naked picks (I am now using that phrase to describe unprotected picks... deal with it) from a team that thinks they will be good... then hope **** hits the fan. I'd rather have 4-5 naked picks than 8 protected picks. Knicks may not be willing to send all teh picks naked.

Whoever the team, I want at least 5 years of owning someone's draft (3 unprotected and 2 swaps) if they can't send a premium asset. Gotta be able to be in position when a team slips which usually happens at least once in 5 years.

See I think this is pretty unrealistic unless it's the Knicks. I dont think anyone else thinks that highly of Donovan.

The other reason why doing it that way is better, is it doesn’t require YOU to lose in order to hope for a high pick.

Yeah, sure, a year or two of tanking is fine. . . but more than that and the excitement fades. Most fans aren’t patient enough for “the process” and owners need butts in seats to make money. Owning other teams picks makes it so you can build your own team as strong as possible and still potentially strike it rich down the road.

Boston, Philly and Golden State have all done that recently. That should be the road map.

I think the Heat do that instantaneously. That is the floor of their offer. And they're the franchise that can feel any kind of confidence that it won't result in a top-10 pick at any point.

Also, I’m betting that the league wants this to happen too. Getting a star, like Donovan Mitchell, into the biggest TV market in the country has to be a boon for the league. Especially because Mitchell grew up there and is a huge NY guy. It makes a lot of sense to all parties. . . Now all they need to do is pony up the draft capital to make it happen.
