About 20 years ago Australia was part of Oceania qualifier (as it should be) but back then the top qualified Oceania team had to square up against a South American team for a place in the World Cup Finals. (Oceania effectively only had 1/2 a quota).

Australia got cute and lobbied to join the Asian Confederation (as to avoid the South American tie), with a lot of bribing no doubt.

So now Australia is permanently part of Asian qualifier and is taking up a place of a REAL Asian country everytime there is a soccer World Cup.

Aussies have time and time again cheated in sports and this was no exception.
