What's new

Would you do this trade...

Last year PG was in the MVP race and dpoy race. Crazy how wild this board can swing after one bad playoffs in the bubble. He came in 3rd place in both of those.

My problem with him is his age and personality. I seriously doubt he wants to play in Utah. So it's a no for me. If he wanted to be here and was committed to the Jazz it would be an easy yes for me.

Struggling in the playoffs at times is a knock. But he also does everything else well when his shot isn't going in. Plus he is still trying to figure things out on a new team and the bubble was just weird for everyone.

We were missing our 3rd best player, and we almost beat Denver.

The Clippers were fully loaded, the favorite to win the title, had a top 3 player in Kawhi, and they lost to Denver in a worse way than we did. Why? PG didn't step up.

PG is a very good player, but I think he's very overrated. Example - guys like Zach Randolph could put up better regular season numbers than Karl Malone or Al Horford or others. But was he really that good? Results say no. Who are you when it matters?

What? Randaolph didn’t ever put up better regular season numbers than Malone.

Now you just talking nonsense.

PG is jump shot dependent on offense... so he will ebb and flow. He is a first class defender no matter what. I get it Dame hit a 40 footer to close a playoff series... he was right it wasn’t a good shot.He shouldn’t have said it because it sounds stupid but that’s been the MO with him is that he says dumb or corny things.

He made it to the eastern conference finals twice on his rookie deal. Let’s just calm down a bit k.

Playoffs are a team thing... was PG part of the clips loss... yup. Kawhi was also trash in game 7 ... Trez was terrible the whole series and Lou is not a playoff guy.

PG's playoff failings are really his two years with Westbrook (who was trashy trash) and the bubble playoffs with a Clips team that never jelled (they had alternating injuries and other bubble events in addition to tough personalities).

Its okay to disagree. I personally don't rate PG that highly. He has lacked that youthful competitiveness in recent years. He seems like he's coasting. He doesn't fight like a Jimmy Butler. For me, he hasn't been the same competitor since his horrific injury.

His best season by far was the year before this one. There is a good reason he came in 3rd in MVP voting and 3rd in dpoy.

I think it’s fine to disagree as well. I don’t think he’s coasting though... I think he’s had some injury issues and changes that haven’t allowed him to get his full footing back for extended periods. I don’t think he’s a mental giant or competitive ******* but I could see him being the second best player on a title team. I think he knows that too... that he is more of a Robin than a Batman... self awareness is good sometimes. Jimmy probably has an over inflated sense of self which is good too.

I think the hate has gone a little far because the guy is a cornball who says dumb ****. I wouldn’t trade Rudy straight up for him but you add Zubac and that’s a good deal. Even if he walks you have capspace and Zubac. Might be a better allocation of resources than just Rudy on a max deal?

Maybe I'm just hung on the fact that it's 100% not happening. The whole idea was LA getting PG back to LA.

Could the trade, if it were to happen, work for us? I think so. PG would have to defer to Donovan, and we would have to replace the hole at C. I don't mind the trade, but I think PG is staying put.

I agree. I also don't think this year is the year to go all in... its part of the reason I might prefer getting something more long term for Conley. This year will become the "bite the bullet" placeholder year to set us up for a normal nba season next year.

I think this is the year to make moves. Even if the moves are away from contention (which I believe we aren't currently contenders regardless), our FO could always blame the current financial landscape as the reason they didn't re-sign Gobert to a near supermax deal and decided to trade him. Same for Conley.

Rudy's next deal scares me big time. He would start a huge extension as a 29 year old limited big man.

The compressed timeline makes it tough. A ****** draft (at least at the top) complicates it too because if you are going youth movement you want a prospect in early.. so you'd want one in this year's draft.

I'd want an overpay if we went the trade Rudy for youth route. I don't know that anyone is excited about pushing in to get Rudy since it is a placeholder season without fans.

If he doesn't sign the extension this offseason we could still extend him at any point during the season to 120% of his current salary... which puts him close to his regular max anyway. So I really don't see us moving the guy... we have a lot of opportunity to keep him.
