Burke, burks, hood and a couple future firsts (probably booker) for Jimmy Butler in a sign and trade with Chicago?

the reason Chicago would do it is because some one can offer butler atomic contract. front load it and give a big signing bonus and other stuff. Jerry riensdorf is usually tight. rumor has it butler is a little upset with how he is handled there with being told it is still Derrick rose's team.

a starting 5 of

exum
butler
Hayward
favors
Gobert

is a finals contender.

No. That's too much. That decimates our wing rotation. Hood and Burks? Plus future firsts?

Hood and Burks are going to stun a lot of people.

That line up would have 0 depth at the wings. Ingles and Millsap are all you have left. Maybe Hanlan at the 2. That's not a finals roster.

jazz could still sign green and this could be the team next year

exum, hanlan, cotton
butler, green, millsap
Hayward, ingles
favors, lyles
Gobert, pleiss

there is still room for a couple more people on that roster. butler, Hayward and green play most of the minutes at the 2 and 3.

was just responding to that lol

No would rather unload Booker and Burke for a pick and use the money to front load Danny Green in a 4 year deal.

This would assume the Bulls have resigned themselves to the idea that the contract offered would be too much and that they'd want to salvage whatever they can to not be left with nothing? If so, that's giving them way too much.

I don't know ANY contract is going to be toxic. If it pushes a team into the luxury tax one season, most teams would be willing to do it to keep an all-star/near franchise player. The cap and tax threshold goes WAY UP next summer and only repeat offenders are severely punished. It would take a DMC-type situation to make Chicago explore a trade and I don't think there's nearly the amount of animosity between Butler and Chicago as there is with DMC/Sacramento or there was with Kanter, for example.

I would make a big offer for Butler, sure. I like the message it sends to the league even if we don't get him.

And yeah, I would trade for him too. We'd have the best defense in the league for sure, and our offense would probably bump up to top 10, depending on how Exum improves.

I'm gonna say yes.

It decimate the wing rotation, but you can always fill those holes with free agents.

You could add Butler, then go and make offers to KJ McDaniels, Danny Green, Carroll, Crowder, etc..

If want to see what Hood can become after another year. He could be really special. If he plays like he did at the end of the season...

Burke = very expendable and replaceable
Burks = expendable and replaceable
Hood = probably expendable and replaceable(the one I'd be most hesitant to give up)
Booker = expendable and replaceable
First round draft picks = expendable because we will be good.

Hood and the picks is really what you are giving up. You can replace the rest in free agency.

Favors and Butler = not expendable or replaceable.

I guess we have to ask ourselves... Who would we rather have in two years. Hayward and Butler or Hayward Burks and Hood. Hood could very well end up as good or close to as good as Butler is now. Will be interesting to see how hood grows as a player in that time. If hood does have that kind of a jump we would be better served to not make this trade. I think it might be too risky. Seems like a Knicks kind of move/disaster waiting to happen. Let's also not forget that Burks has shown the ability to improve his shot and get better in all aspects of his game and I think in two years he will also be much improved. I say no to the deal.

But trading Favors for Butler isn't too much? You did throw that out there as if you'd do it.

In the scenario that you can land Millsap, yes (there was also the possibility of adding a potential rim-protection stud in Turner at that time). All day. If not? Probably not. And yes, I understand I'm talking about a fantasy scenario (just like this one is).

Also, I'm irrationally high on Hood. I think he could be this team's best offensive player (maybe even best overall player) and I'm not ditching that lottery ticket.

If the package is Burks, Burke, and a bunch of picks then I'm in. But Hood is borderline untouchable until we start to see his ceiling and I don't think we have.

Absolutely. Depth and potential are overrated. Jimmy Butler can give you 35+ high quality minutes a night.

I think people are forgetting that the name of the game still is to pile as much talent as you can into one of your starters. Having the best players is still more important than having depth. In a few years ypu can't even keep all those players anyways.

All those assets mentioned in the trade are largely replaceable and most likely gone in a few years.

Jimmy Butler would add a lot of offense and elite defense to our starting group.
