WOW - Trading into the Top Ten picks was CRAZY dificult

If Charlotte turned down four 1st round picks for Frank... WOW.

Would be interesting to know who offered us two future 1st-rounders. If it's a solid playoff team then it's not a deal to be done - or if they were protected picks that were too protected.

I'm going to exhale and wait to see what Lyles does - as a fan, gonna hold DL accountable though. Hoping for Pleiss or a signing for a solid backup C.

Lots of people talking **** about Charlotte being dumb here (and I agree) but it says in the op that teams 4-9 would not accept trade offers from Boston. So it wasn't just Charlotte

I'm sure i don't have a clue, but if I was a GM in Fantasy Land and was convinced that 1. Charlotte was locked in on Kaminsky. 2. Miami was taking Payne, Booker, or Oubre (Payne according to DX) and 3. Indiana was taking Turner, I would have called Miami and Indiana and offered 2nd round picks to get them to lay off Kaminsky. If they said no, all bets would be off, but if neither team really wanted Kaminsky maybe they take the 2nd round picks. Then I call Charlotte and try to make a deal knowing I can guarantee Kaminsky will be there at 12.

That would be insane, a 4 way draft day trade. Jazz from 12 to 9, Charlotte 9 to 10, Miami 10-11 and Indiana 11-12. DL would surpass God with this type of trade.

I'll give Denver a break as they badly needed a PG since Lawson hates Denver and wants to leave. If they trade Lawson they would get the value of 2-3 1st rounders so I think they were wise to do what they did.

I've been pushing the Danny Ainge line for years. NBA draft picks are the most overpriced asset in professional sports.

They're not overpriced as far as fan $$$ goes; fans are irrational idiots who need that draft pick.

This.

When people complain about GM's, remember that fan GM's produce the same results as Michael Jordan.

We don't see the workouts. We are freaking clueless.

I think Jazz should have offered #12, top 8 protected first in 2016 and OKC pick with some 2nd rounders. Charlotte would have only dropped 3 spots and could have gotten Booker, who is a better fit for them imo. Jazz really only lose their first next year, which is probably 17 at worst if they can make the playoffs (maybe 19 as the East is so bad). OKC pick probably amounts to a second rounder. Only reason I don't include GS is if you really like the 2017 draft.

No. That's too much.

I'm happy with the results. Glad we didn't mortgage the future

In the moment you kinda wanna make a big splash, but in hindsight we are in a better position. Mostly because Trey Lyles appears to be a much better prospect than most of us thought at first.
That just tells me that fans can talk themselves into anything. Lol

A "future first" can mean a lot of different things.

An unprotected future first from Philly is solid gold. A future first with four years of lotto protection from a playoff team is worth dick.

Plus, picks are usually overrated on draft night.

Moving up is usually a better idea in theory.

Taking frank over jw will go down as all time dumb. Solidify mj in his position as all time worst exec. Overtaking his old rival isiah.

I can sort of understand their not wanting to trade from 9 to 16, but the Jazz had to have offered the 12 + assets in which case they probably woulda been able to grab Kaminsky at 12. Dunno what assets the Jazz offered and maybe Charlotte was scared Miami or Indy would grab Frank.

Yes to a large degree.

However, in many cases the GMs have a track record and we can judge them on that (even if we couldn't do better). Look at the decisions of top franchises versus middling versus awful. It comes down to the quality of their decisions. On the particulars, I could be 100% wrong, but 4 first round picks seems like a high price to pay for the Tank's draft rights. And I'd be willing to bet the Tank was below JW on 29 out of 30 GM's draft boards.
