Yahoo: 'Utah attempting to move up'

I think I like Lawson much more than most people. His shooting percentages (51.5%, 41% on threes) are great for a point guard, he's young, he's actually a pretty good distributor, etc etc.

I'm also not enamored with most of the players outside of the top five or six. If our options come down to drafting Babbitt or trading for Lawson, I'd have to think about it. If our options were trading for Lawson or completely wasting a pick on Whiteside or Patrick Patterson I'd take the value where I see it.

As a backup though, often against the other team's backup. I don't hate Lawson, but whatever value Lawson has is diminished on the Jazz.

I read this thread earlier and didn't think anything of the title because I also found that same article. However, when I was reading through the thread titles again later, the title reads,

"Yahoo!! Utah attempting to move up!!" :D

Which would summarize how I feel about it. I really like Derrick Favors. He reminds me of a smoother, more athletic, taller version of Paul Millsap but with better hands. The only two knocks on Paul is that he drops the ball too much and he's a little bit too short. If we were able to get Favors then we could easily either let Boozer walk or trade him for player(s) and/or assets. Of course, that's assuming we could get Favors.

Although, I doubt we could trade high enough to get him. Other than Favors, Wall and Turner, it is somewhat of a guessing game.

I don't think Patterson would be a wasted pick. He'd just be redundant.

I wouldn't be happy with the 9 if I'm KOC. The only bigs left will be the smart, but unathletic softee Monroe or the low upside Aldrich. Might as well move down and get a more promising player overall in Babbitt or Henry while purging AK or Okurs contract.

You're right, picks 4-10 could end up in a lot of different ways. Its looking like Johnson-Cousins will go 4-5, and after that it is going to get crazy. We really just have no idea who the Jazz are targeting at this point.

I wouldn't mind getting Wall, Turner, or Favors. Although, Favors is a tad risky since he didn't really do anything in college (coach, guards, etc) so it's difficult to speculate on what kind of player he is. Whenever I saw him I noticed that he was athletic and tall. But so are a lot of players...

Realistically I think the best player for us would be Turner, but I doubt he'll be available unless we move up to #1 or #2. Having him and Deron would make up the best backcourt in the NBA. We could then use next year's pick along with Minny's plus the money we should free up next summer to work on the bigs. We should also work on brining Tomic over.

Though the thought of going through a season with only Fess, Kosta, and Millsap at our 5 and 4 spots is scary, I think if we have the chance at getting a top guard, wehther it be Turner, Johnson, etc we should take it. No need to take a headcase or an unathletic player who isn't who we want to play big... Like a Cousins or Monroe... We have plenty of time to work on the bigs.
