when your wife takes the kid, heads to No. CA to visit her family for 5 days, and you have absolutely no plans other than watching as much basketball as possible. I'm just thrilled I FINALLY get to watch the Jazz on the 50-inch TV in the family room. I'm usually banished to the bedroom to watch on the 24-inch screen.


Oh yeah, and I also get to tend my daughter's dog, cat, 2 rats and her fish. Well, not the fish. It actually died last week and she hasn't noticed (we didn't want to spoil her Christmas). BTW, out of all the pets, I think I like the rats the best. They're actually quite friendly and very intelligent.

One of the good things about being on the East Coast is by the time The Jazz come on, my son is asleep and my wife is usually getting ready to go to sleep. So I have my man cave to myself and a nice quiet house.

Get a new goldfish/beta from the pet store and swap it out while she is gone?

Sounds simple. But my daughter found a yellow one last time. You know how hard it is to find a yellow Betta? I've only found one in six different stores (over two shipment periods) with a pure yellow body. But it had a black head...not a close enough match. And no, don't going telling acne jokes now that I've said "blackhead."

I'm just going to 'fess up (well maybe tell a wee bit of a "fish story") and tell my daughter her fish died while she was gone. Of course, I'll blame it all on me. I just hope the other pets survive. We had a tiny emergency two weeks ago with one of the rats. A $5 rat and my wife spent $60 on a vet visit and anti-biotics due to a respiratory infection. Yep, that sound you hear is money being sucked out of the old wallet.
 
I've sworn I'll never spend more for medical bills than it would cost to buy a new pet. A $300 dog gets $300 in medical treatment before I buy I bullet.
