What's new

Your ideal Lauri trade package?

So many ham sandwiches. Soooooo many. Maybe all of the ham sandwiches. All. Of. Them.

You forgot to include Amen (for future trade) and some 2nd round picks. All their assets or eff all the way off.
Yeah I'd include Amen as well but kinda want Sheppard because we would struggle mightily with shooting/spacing once we lose Lauri. We are amongst the bottom half of teams in terms of 3pt shooting percentage already. We can't afford any more non-shooters in the rotation.

I really prefer to keep Lauri and build around him, but the timelines just don't match up. Houston makes a lot if sense as a trade partner because they want to win now and have tradable assets including a 2025 pick swap with the Nets.

Nevermind. The Nets got their own pick back.

Yeah... sign first. What are the rules for a S&T?
R&E or new deal at FA are the only ways to get a deal Lauri would accept.

S&T deals cant be renegotiated, so they max at 140% annual raises which puts the total contract value too low.

That is also a reason why there wont be no grandfather offers and this whole convo is futile.

If Jazz R&E Lauri in July or very early August, then he would become trade elibible before February DL and this conversation would then be much more legit.

OKC's picks aren't amazing. They have volume but they are just OK.

2025:

OKC
Pick Swap with Houston or Clippers (likely a 14ish pick)
Utah (protected 1 - 10) - not likely to happen and it becomes top 8 protected in 2026. If it doesn't convey by 2026 then there is no obligation to convey.
Miami (protected 1 - 14) - likely a 16 - 18 pick

2026:
OKC

2027:
Denver
Clippers Swap
OKC

2028:
Dallas
OKC

2029:
Denver
OKC

2030:
OKC

Do you get traded in a Lauri trade (you're a Finn right)?

Really appreciate your cap knowledge and insight

You need picks that are in the lottery because they odds are higher for a top 3 pick now than ever. I doubt any of the 2025 picks will be lottery picks due to protections. There is a very outside chance that Ime Udoku meets Flipowski's lady and gets dominated in a unique afair and he gets fired and Houston sucks again. Miami could fetch 15 best case. Clippers could have PG leave, Harden and Kawhi get hurt and could potentially be a lottery pick. But it's not likely. OKC's pick isn't there.

I like the 2027 Clippers swap.

Denver by 2029 is worth a gamble. But otherwise we are taking a lot of empty calorie picks.

Any trade for Lauri with OKC requires some of their current pieces. Lugen Dortz, Isaiah Joe, Kenrich Williams, Cason Wallace, and Nikola Topic are all interesting enough but I don't see the value.

Haha. Likely not. I was a Jazz fan back in the 90s before Lauri was even born. Wanted someone to dethrone the Bulls.

But you never know if that kills the spark.

Besides, HH and EH are much better with the cap and CBA than me.

Rockets are the best partner because of the 2 Suns picks in 2027 and 2029, pick swaps rights for Brooklyn in 2027, along with lots of young talent. I like:

Tari Eason
Sengun
Jabari Smith
Green
Tate

Houston can be dangerous for years with Maarkanen being added in to the fold.

~the Bridges package. We can take a little less and/or take back bad salary.

Maybe the way to get something bigger back from whoever is to include Kessler as some kind of security/sweetener on value for win now teams (considering that at present Lauri is an expiring contract). An excellent rim protector on a rookie scale salary is highly useful for a team looking to keep the payroll under control.

Someone tell us if a team that acquired him this summer could extend him at an appropriate number (extensions are not an area I know well, especially this CBA). If he can’t really be extended, trading him this off-season for a haul is out of the question.
