Your ideal Lauri trade package?

~the Bridges package. We can take a little less and/or take back bad salary.

Maybe the way to get something bigger back from whoever is to include Kessler as some kind of security/sweetener on value for win now teams (considering that at present Lauri is an expiring contract). An excellent rim protector on a rookie scale salary is highly useful for a team looking to keep the payroll under control.

Someone tell us if a team that acquired him this summer could extend him at an appropriate number (extensions are not an area I know well, especially this CBA). If he can’t really be extended, trading him this off-season for a haul is out of the question.
Im pretty sure that no one can acquire and extend Lauri unless its a scaled extension which is capped at 113/4 for him.

R&E also requires you to use free cap space for the first year, which is why its rather rare to see.

I think we should trade him to the Jazz for like 100 1st round picks. It's a win win. We keep an elite player and we get to keep more 1st round picks than we know what to do with.

We can then try to make some moves to get better trading for great players with some of those picks. If that doesn't work out we just keep picking and hope those turn out or the ones we made in the last 2 years works out. It's not like we can keep adding 3 or more 1st round picks to the roster every year.

First I think Lauri will get his extension for this year and then next year for 4-5 years. That is the way to do it, then we can talk about the trade packages. If Lauri plays next year 60-70 games with all youth we have, then 25 wins is max. If Key, Cody and Taylor start the most games then maybe 20 wins is max. Utah will be really bad whole season and will get a high pick nevertheless if Lauri plays. By the way I like to draft Rocco more than Flagg.

My package is swap Lauri to OKC for JDub (+ fillers either way if necessary) and build around him.

I’d have a short list of teams. The Blazers and Spurs (probably) in the West. That’s it. Every other team has 45+ win potential. The Spurs could improve a lot this season but even with the addition of Lauri, I doubt it. The rest of the West is brutal with more proven commodities.

In the East, the Pistons, Wiz, and Hornets are all on the table.

Figure out which one of those teams (or a team who owns the rights to one of those teams unprotected picks) has a tradable young player and 1sts to trade in 2025 (that’s a must) and beyond and we’re talking.

Sign Lauri. Trade with the Spurs. Keldon Johnson and Collins or Graham and picks: their own 2025 unprotected 1st and the 2025 Hawks unprotected 1st they own. Shoot for a 2028 lottery protected 1st too. But that’s not necessary. Getting the two 2025 unprotected as is invaluable. Especially since that Hawks team could implode imo.

Okc built back up quickly because they traded PG for Shai. Plus, they drafted REALLY well and hit on Jaylen Williams. Then they got the 2nd pick luck and added Chet.

Pacers nabbed Haliburton for Sabonis. Huge upgrade even though it didn't look like it at the time. That foresight gave them a solid playoff run and many more to come.

The point being is everyone assumes Houston or OKC because of their draft capital. But I think betting on the next Shai or Haliburton is probably the bigger prize because we already have the draft capital.

Who are the best young players you would want to build around besides Wemby? Are there other top 10 NBA players that are young that we could snag now instead of a draft pick heavy return? Of course draft picks will be part of any deal.

The Mikal Bridges deal looks insane but many of those picks are empty calorie picks. The Nets getting back their own 2025 and 2026 picks was their biggest asset. They didn't get any blue chip prospect though.

I definitely wouldn't mind getting back a young blue chip, if possible. But the current contenders like Denver, Milwaukee, OKC, etc. were mainly built mostly be drafting well and we need dart throws. Big game hunting is an ancillary thing and it's better to keep the powder dry for such a move. If OKC is gearing up for a Lauri trade, getting our pick back would be numeral uno priority simply because we will have everything open at that point.

I think its notable its being reported. None of this reporting happens by accident. You have to ask yourself, “why am i hearing about this now?”
