I think its notable its being reported. None of this reporting happens by accident. You have to ask yourself, “why am i hearing about this now?”

This is a good question. In addition to signaling to other teams “hey we will listen if you want to get wild”… Lauri likely wants to sign the extension… they are negotiating it most likely… if we trade him he doesn’t get extension… this could partly be leverage in those discussions or at very least getting him and his team to definitively signal they want to be here if they haven’t already. If he’s doing a “maybe I won’t sign if you are going to be doggy doodoo” then we do a “we gonna do what we need to and maybe we listen to offers and you can hit FA next year if you don’t want to be here”.

In other words… our favorite offseason word… leverage.

I don’t think he is moved but I get why people here think it’s more possible. This is similar to the messaging we heard around Don and Rudy before they were moved. Maybe not Rudy but definitely Don.

Still think it’s like 5% chance. But we know Danny say that Bridges trade and likely got a bit horny.

The messaging changed tone last season but not recently. But the main reason he wont get traded now is that we are the only ones who can extend him with a deal he would sign and we cant do that as S&T.

Im 99% sure we will renegotiate and extend him as almost all talking heads have said, and if we trade him this upcoming season it will be at the DL with his new contract.

Agree… I hear a slight tone change but not much… and may just be misremembering. I am only holding back 5% because owners get weird and GMs get desperate and then yolo their draft picks recklessly. I actually think it would take slightly more than what Bridges got… maybe not in volume but in overall value. Basically we can feel great because I think DA will only do a deal that the other team shouldn’t. It will not be a fair deal if he does it.

But I later realized the contract needs to happen. No way we get a grandfather offer if the team acquiring him has to let him get to FA because they cant extend him on a higher number than 113/4.

It’s not difficult if you actually traded for Lauri. The earlier they do it the better for them.

I get it. I said that if we draft 3 rookies and make no trades its a real possibility he gets traded.

But I later realized the contract needs to happen. No way we get a grandfather offer if the team acquiring him has to let him get to FA because they cant extend him on a higher number than 113/4.

And something may have changed in the background somewhere… but I agree. At very least I think you talk during the extension and just agree that if it isn’t working you will find a suitable trade partner at the deadline.

It’s not difficult if you actually traded for Lauri. The earlier they do it the better for them.

It looks like they could still sign someone like Hartenstein, trade for Lauri, and still have enough cap space to R&E him in January.
