The Official Swing for the Fences and throw a max offer at Kawhi Leonard thread

Either way Leonard gets maxed out and stays. He. Is. Staying.

Only way I could see something happening is if Gasol took his time deciding and a team offers Kawhi the max on day #1. Then Leonard would have to fear the Spurs were not going to give him the same. He's already said he trusts the Spurs to get a deal done, though. It would be kind of like Parsons. He decided not to wait because he had heard some rumors they were reconsidering their original "promise" to him. Houston couldn't sign Parsons if they wanted to still hold out for Bosh. Slightly different because it was an offer sheet with a deadline. Doesn't hurt to make a phone call on July 1st. Tell Kawhi he's option #1 and has 1 hour to consider before the Jazz make an offer to option #2. Do the same with Matthews and work down the list.

Remember how Phoenix got Bell? They told him he had to say yes or no while he was still on the phone. Of course they made an offer no other team was likely to make. So an easy decision for Raja.

I like the strategy, but I think teams would line up to offer him the max unlike Parsons. I'd see if his agent would take our call.

I'm not sure I want to pay Matthews 15 per, but I think that is what it might take. Maybe he'd be intrigued with a little more offensive opportunity as well. I might do a declining deal for him.. 15, 14ish, 13ish, 12ish. But yeah he doesn't get to take it back to Porty just so they can match (I know he is not restricted, but don't want him just to waste our time and use our offer against theirs).

Don't care if he does. If they match, they can't do much else going forward other than trying to keep their team together. They'll have to also pay Lopez big dollars and then most certainly have to offer Lillard a max deal in 2 years. They also have Afflalo on the books for next season. Likely would need to look for trades. Anything we could do to make Allen squirm would be justified payback.

I think 10 per can get you Matthews. 12 over 3 years and he loves you.

I'd be shocked if Gasol didn't stay in Memphis.

Yep. Why take less money to play for a less talented team? The Spurs or Trailblazers are the only two teams that I could see really making a push for him, but he'd still be leaving at least $20+ million on the table to do so. 'Melo wouldn't even leave the dumpster-fire of the Knicks to do that. . . why would Gasol leave a legitimate contender?

what's your evidence, bruce?
I think he is crazy. But I sure hope he is right.
Of course otoh if he is willing to take that small of a salary then every team in the league will be trying to get him so our chances of getting him would decrease anyway
