Rudy Gobert - 2015/2016 Defensive Player Of The Year Push

I want DeMarre Carroll back. Just imagine how the Jazz can harass teams with a defensive lineup of Gobert, Favors, Carroll, Hayward and Exum. . . damn. Plus the intensity from Gobert, Booker and DMC would be electric.

I think Millsap (Poor Man's Ron Artest) is a more effective defender than Carroll. Though Carroll is a better shooter.

I think lil Sap could be or is already close to Bruce Bowen type player? He has to be more committed to just sitting in the corner and shooting the 3 ball.

Demarre carrol has been outstanding on the wing. He should be considered, but probably won't. Gobert didn't play enough this year. He will win for like ten years though, so it's not a big deal.

Umm no.

Defensive Win Shares 2.1
Defensive Adjusted plus/minus 0.7

For reference

Gobert
DWS 2.2 in far less minutes
DPM 6.2

Anthony Davis
DWS 2.6
DPM 2.2

DeAndre Jordan
DWS 3.6
DPM 3.0

Based on my quick look DeAndre Jordan should win.

So options are. . .

C: Rudy Gobert - Utah
C: Marc Gasol - Memphis
C: DeAndre Jordan - LA Clippers
PF: Serge Ibaka - Oklahoma
PF: Draymond Green - Golden State
PF: Anthony Davis - New Orleans
SG: Jimmy Butler - Chicago

Even if you include Hassan Whiteside, every single one of those players (except Gobert and Davis) would be in the playoffs right now. . . astonishing what Gobert has been able to do this year in his development. Add an offensive game and he'll be the top center in the league. He probably won't win the DPOY award, but he should be in the conversation.

jordan is balling lately without griffin. he might have a chance too

All defensive team this year

Gobert
Davis
Draymond
Butler
???

Not sure who to put in that last spot. I could see voters mistakenly putting Whiteside over Gobert. Which would be B.S.
As much as we all hate cp3, he is considered a really good defender.
Maybe he takes that last spot.

Maybe conley

Lebron. No one's mentioned Lebron. Which is poor form.

Normally I'd agree. I think he is one of the best defenders of all time, but it does seem like his defense has dropped off a little. I think he's probably still capable of it when he wants to, but he is getting older and has to conserve his energy a little. So it's not on display as much as it use to be. The guy just has way too much responsibility on the court as it is.

But ya, you are right. He probably can take one of those spot on the all defensive team. I wouldn't give him defensive player of the year award though.

I was watching LMU vs Pepperdine just now, and a player had an amazing block, prompting the announcer to say "DID HE JUST PULL A GOBERT??".

I can't believe how quickly Gobert's reputation has spread.

Here are the top 15 in DRPM this year, probably these players take home most of the first and second team all-defense.

1 Andrew Bogut, C
2 DeMarcus Cousins, C
3 Tim Duncan, PF
4 Tony Allen, SF
5 Jusuf Nurkic, C
6 Draymond Green, SF
7 Hassan Whiteside, C
8 Serge Ibaka, PF
9 Khris Middleton, SG
10 Kawhi Leonard, SF
11 Andre Roberson, SG
12 Anthony Davis, PF
13 Cody Zeller, PF
14 Tyson Chandler, C
15 Rudy Gobert, C

Comments: Duncan, amazingly still bringing it. Surprised by Zeller and Robertson on this list.
Bogut: His D is still underrated because of lack of flash. He's high IQ, like Duncan.
Surprised by absence of Noah and Hibbert
More salivation for those of you yearning for Middleton.

My guess is Cousins and Chandler for all defense Center. Next year it goes to Gobert and Whiteside.

Thoughts?

for gobert to win DPOY, we first need to make the playoffs. wins and losses do matter. voters will always favor a player from a winning team.

i doubt he will win this year. but next year? why not? make the playoffs, and make noise. and let the whole world know the best center is playing for utah friggin jazz. it's our time
