Following potential 2015 draftees

Other than being nearly 10 years older, what do you guys see Justise Winslow bringing to the table that Millsap doesn't already? They have similar height, both are commited physical defenders and iffy shooters/offensive weapons, Millsap is dirt cheap at $1m+ for the next 3 years?

This is another reason why I think if we're drafting in the 10-14 range we might be trading that pick....

This was just a week ago. Lol. You crack me up nickkkkk.

I did say I was semi serious no?

Plus Winslow has since shown more offensive potential for me this week, and that 3pt shot is looking good. Things could change quite a bit by draft time.

WCS is much better than Dieng. Dieng is a terrible defender.

WCS is a defensive beast all over the floor.. but he's too limited offensively to have next to Gobert and I think we will be trying harder for a could-be starter.

This is a good read. In part..

By halftime the only question was how long the 20 or so NBA scouts, like New York Knicks president Phil Jackson, would continue to watch?

Jackson exited during the final TV timeout, with the Wildcats leading, 80-57.

Credit Trey Lyles and Andrew Harrison with 18 points. Willie Cauley-Stein had nine rebounds, four blocks and two steals. Karl-Anthony Towns made four of five shots while Tyler Ulis made four of six. Aaron Harrison had five steals.

The NBA posse arrived early to scout both teams. Jackson, the man who is trying to make the Knicks a power like the teams he coached with the Bulls and Lakers, sat on the baseline near the Arkansas bench. The Knicks are awful, which means their odds are better than any other team to draft first in June.

What did I learn from the NBA guys?

Two things:

1.) Don't be certain that Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor will be the first pick in the 2015 NBA Draft;

2.) Look for as many as three UK players to be taken in lottery, two more in the first round and at least two others in the second.

Which Kentucky player could overtake Okafor?

One basketball person told me Karl-Anthony Towns, UK's mammoth freshman. The other said Willie Cauley-Stein, the Kentucky junior who can play center, forward, guard, assistant coach and blogger.

“Towns is more athletic than Okafor,” one basketball man said. “He's got a greater upside. He's longer and harder to score on.”

And Cauley-Stein?

“I was here two weeks ago and saw him stand out there and make two tough 16- or 17-foot shots,” another basketball scout said. “When I saw that, that changed my perception of him because if he adds that to his game, look out.

“You hear everybody say that Cauley-Stein can guard all five positions – and that's true. But he's much more than that. He's become a much better offensive player. And he might be the best athlete in the draft at any position. All he needs is a little confidence.”

The Wildcats' third lottery selection will be freshman guard Devin Booker.

The other two first-round selections? Freshman forward Trey Lyles and Dakari Johnson, the sophomore center.

This is good stuff. The more WCS rises the better it is for us.

I want WCS - unless Tomic or Pleiss can impress.
We have our PF's in Favors and Booker.
We can pick up a wing in free agency or via trade.

Can you imagine Gobert being subbed out by Cauley-Stein? Just when teams breathe a sigh of relief at Gobert going out, in comes another monster-5. NO MERCY!

What if the team picking #3 already has a PG (Minnesota/Orlando), and both Okafor and Towns are off the board? They might not want either Russell or Mudiay, so they're left with the group of: Cauley-Stein, Johnson, Hezonja, Porzingis, Winslow.

As an example, Minny already has Dieng, so they would probably pass on Cauley-Stein. If they think that there isn't much separating that Johnson/Hezonja/Winslow group talent-wise, and they like the look of Winslow, then I think Minny could look very closely at #3 pick for #9 plus that future OKC pick.

Larry Sanders has done a similar deal with us before when they moved back to take Dieng and Shabazz - I think it's something they might consider.

How about they view Rubio as an asset in the increasing salary cap landscape? I mean they see him every day in practice and stuff. His contract may become valuable if he does a few improvements. So I wouldn't count that out. Also Russell is tall as is Rubio and they could do one of these "2 Point Guards playing at the same time" rotations. Wiggins isn't that ball dominant and Pekovic will be moved at some point.

NY and LA are completely empty. They'll go BPA. Philly has no Backcourt player with potential on its roster.

Other teams that could stumble into him may opt to cash in higher or take him anyways and figure it out later. Denver may clear board. Sacto has no PG if they move up in the lottery.
#9 + a pick that's either #20 or #30 depending on what Kevin Durant does, but Russell + Ibaka is enough for playoff participation.
The Bulls traded #16 + #19 for #11. Do you really think #9 + #20 best case will get the job done for a top 3 pick? If you give up Burks after a bounce back season as well. Then they may talk but the Jazz shouldn't wanna do that if their core continues to improve.
Also calling Flip Saunders Larry Sanders isn't right. It just isn't.

I like WCS, but I don't want him. We desperately need scoring. If we get a scorer in FA that could change...but we really need somebody who can get buckets.

I think 4 years/60M for Wes is worth it. It's not going to be ridiculously high once the cap shoots up next summer and thereafter. It's also not the max yet it's enough that Portland may not match. He would be a ridiculous upgrade over what we've had at the 2 all year long and if Exum took a clear step forward next year, I think we could win 45 games next season.

Exum-Burke
Wes-Burks
Hayward-Hood
Favors-Booker
Gobert-Dakari

This doesn't even include our 1st rounder this year.

I wonder what ppl see in Dieng. He's like 25 and in his minutes Minny's defense has been atrocious even though he occasionally blocks a shot in spectacular fashion.

You've got two Burks in your team.

I wonder who would start though if you have Wes and Burks on your team? I guess Burks would come off the bench.

Woops, yeah I obviously mean Burks. That's my bad. What's more embarrassing though is the fact that you're even debating who would come off the bench, Wes or Burks. Jesus.

Well I would have Burks coming off the bench as his skill set is much better suited for that. Just wasn't clear what your view was hence the question.
