SALT LAKE CITY — Often contentious, sometimes defiant and occasionally humble Sen. Chris Buttars plans to announce his retirement from the Utah Legislature as the 2011 session draws to a close late Thursday.

Buttars, 68, was to make the announcement from the Senate floor shortly after the final gavel goes down. He was first elected in 2000 and has two years left on his third term. He has suffered poor health in recent years.

I'm going to pull this thread back away from the ledge a bit by saying if you think Buttars is racist because of that comment then you're at least mildly retarded, with more preconceived notions than a pack of termites hell bent on plowing through a large chunk of petrified redwood. What are you going to put in the three blank spots on your "Top Ten Reasons I Hate Chris Buttars" logsheet? It's really gonna look stupid when you flash that at a party now.

Why do blacks get to say racist things and whites can't? Anyone else watch Chris Tucker or eddie murphy? Made millions off racist comments. If Katie Couric said the same stuff she'd be on food stamps the very next day.

Because the former is a member of a historically, and currently, oppressed, marginalized, and discriminated against social group, and the latter is a member of the group that has historically, and currently, does the oppressing, marginalizing and discriminating and which has historically, and currently, wields all, or most, of the social, economic, and political power.

Regardless, it does not advance the cause of ending racism to ignore racist comments just because of the color of mouth they came out of.
 
I love the radical Buttars types. It's the reason I read jazzfanz tbpfh. Can't wait for the presidential primaries. So much entertainment.
