Who Will The Jazz Pick?

Personally I'd rather have a 2nd Favors than a 2nd Gobert.

I think Gobert is better than Favors, but you need the versatility alongside Gobert.

When Gobert is out, a lineup of Exum/Burks/Hayward/Portis/Favors could just switch everything and still have rim protection.

And more than just me wanting him, I think this is actually who we select. He just fits the Jazz mold of the Sloan era as well as DL's vision.

47% from deep on very limited attempts (.8 per game) suggest he can learn the corner 3.

Also he would give us 4 bigs who can all run the floor at a very high level.

I picked Turner, though I think Portis is just as likely. I passed on Kaminsky due to limitations on defense and running the floor.

Offensive versatility, defensive versatility, enough length and size to play either position, runs the floor, high motor, good range on his jumper basketball IQ, still young.

Isn't this everything we want?

Thank you. Been saying that for a while. He's the one guy no one has mentioned publicly for the Jazz. He's got the jumper, size and defensive potential that Trevor Booker lacks.

I really like him. He's second on my list from the players that are left to pick from.

I'm not voting just yet, as I'm still making up my mind. I've been trying to talk myself into Turner, but man I'm having a hard time getting excited about someone I'm very concerned won't contribute much for a few years. Right now I'm about 50/50 on Portis/Kaminsky. Need to meditate on this a while.

Portis is a little taller than favors, he says he can play 4 or 5.

Watch that DX video, pay attention to his defense. He picks up a gaurd at full court and stays down and in front of him. He has abilities that would translate to Quinn's defense.

DX said his shot is unconventional. I don't think it is getting fixed anytime soon. I like his passing.

Watching Arkansas play....I also like Qualls

I went Looney, just because he needed a vote. But I'm just as unconfident in him as any others. To me, he may work best for us in terms of long-terms skills the team both needs and are hard to find elsewhere. Potential is as high as any others. (And also, I tend to trust that the analytic models are, on average more likely to rank the talent better than DX, and they generally seem to rank him quite high.)

But as I've said before, DL could easily talk me in to almost any of these guys. They all bring something interesting.

He shot 42% from 17 feet to the 3pt line, a very good number. Doesn't need fixing.

Qualms is a monster. All Arkansas draft and sign Patrick Beverly.

Utah Razorbacks.

Portis and Looney are slightly different but I would be fine with either of those guys as I think overall they would fill a similar need.

I don't see that. I think Kaminsky and Portis fill the similar need (4/5), even if rather differently. Looney and Dekker would fill the 4/3, quasi-playmaking stretch-4 need.

Every highlight I've seen from Turners post up he does a turn around fader, it looks fantastic but I'd love to see him throw in some pump fakes or post moves, hopefully if we get him he doesn't turn into a black hole down low.
Also his three point attempts aren't set plays, they seem to be last option chuck and hit.
Defensively I saw him guard drives pretty well, and can change shots in the post (average post defense IMO) and rip down rebounds. We already have guys who do this.

Frank looks like he's a little more engrained in his practices as a stretch option, as well as inside. Although when I see him play he looks timid, I want some nasty. His defense is sub-par, I don't think will fit so well with our defensive identity.

I feel like our superstar power comes from our FO and Coaching staff. I have faith they can take talent and mold it into what they like.

This opinion is based off of what I saw during the Draft Express highlights. All comments are welcome.

TL:DR - I can't choose between weak sauce and weak sauce. Past pick 6, I can't get amped by any prospects.

Love this kid's personality. He is very mature and well spoken. His shot looks really good too. He talks about just wanting to go to a team where he will get minutes and be a good fit. I think that team is the Jazz.

Ok, so I've officially shied away from Turner/Looney, although I trust DL enough that I'll support whoever he goes with. The only outcome I'd be pissed at is if they trade out for a future pick, but I don't see that happening anyway. That leaves me still struggling with Kaminsky vs. Portis. I really want Frank's offensive game in Utah, but still concerned about his defense. Might be time for a coin flip.

I have a gut feeling trade down or out for a more established player like when Booker came here.

I am so underwhelmed at this point in the draft. The guys we have put on our big board leading up to this are not superstars by any stretch. What we are looking at here would be late first round picks in a better draft class (like Deron's or even last year). I really hope we deal this and get a solid vet or 2.

Here is the knock on Kaminsky for me. He is a senior, so largely what you see is what you get. I know players develop beyond that, but the real knock is he doesn't have the athletic chops to stand in the NBA. I think he will get repeatedly rolled on defense but faster stronger players. He has a nice offensive game, but I also think against elite defense that will drop off, and since he doesn't have the physical tools to overcome that he will get squashed. I am probably wrong about all this, but that is how I see it. He has a lot of the same downsides as Morrison, and same upsides as well.

The way I see it regardless of who we draft we are drafting a bench player therefor he won't be playing against elite defenders.

Memo
Dirk
Anderson
Kanter
Gasol bros

Just to name a few of those who don't or didn't rely on great athletic ability. Fact is Kaminsky has an elite offensive skill set that adds a new dimension to the Jazz that allows us to be even harder to defend not to mention his will to win and bball IQ.

Why Kaminsky's lack of athletic ability isn't a liability.

Great footwork
At 7-1 has great mobility
Very quick shot
Great handles, great face up game can shoot over the top of defenders
Has a variety of moves in the post.
Great passer in the post
Great IQ
