I have come across an interesting article on the subject of political correctness in academia.

This is a subject that I deeply care about, as I think liberals are doing society a great disservice by pushing these new dogmas on the rest of us. The relatively free market of ideas is largely responsible for the incredible accomplishments of Western culture over the past few centuries (another subjects liberals don't want anyone to talk about), and I am afraid that such mentality will erode meaningful dialogue that is necessary to push society forward. Journalism is practically dead in mass media, and academia is one of the last arenas where productive discourse can still take place. It would be a shame if that's taken away from us.

if you think all lives matter and not only #blacklivesmatter? SAY IT

There is really no question that liberals are the pushers of the current goodthink atmosphere. Not to say that conservatives are valiant defenders of free speech. They're just as fond of censorship as anyone. But this is about the specific issue of political correctness. That is a leftist ideal that has taken root across Western societies. And while the idea behind it is perfectly understandable, it has become a hindrance to honest exchange of knowledge and ideas.

The fact that all lives matter is the essence of why the #blacklivesmatter movement on social media was started - you dummy. Because many injustices and downright evils being overlooked by the media and society in general, it was a way to push some things into the public eye by getting in "trending" on social media. It isn't insinuating that only black lives matter - you moron.

Only dense, insecure racists can't comprehend this. I agree with you generally speaking about the PC crowd, but I don't even think you think abstractly enough to grasp either side of the coin. You're just a dumb dumb.
 
This seems like the perfect place for a definition of political correctness.

the avoidance, often considered as taken to extremes, of forms of expression or action that are perceived to exclude, marginalize, or insult groups of people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against.

How about that as a starting point.

I'd say more generally, it is the enforcement of certain ideologies and perspectives based on their politeness as opposed to their objectivity. In other words, it is about choosing the narrative that the fewest number of people find offensive, and not the one that offers the best explanation.

I'd agree and that is where it is taken to extremes.

Most of these guys have tenure and are damn near impossible to fire (or they are part timers and this isn't their bread winning job). It took nearly an act of god for an assclown like Ward Churchill to get fired, and that's only because they found out he was a plagiarizing ****. If they are afraid to speak their mind, that's on them.

That's changing in a lot of disciplines; there's a glut of PhDs seeking academic jobs.
