I don't disagree players might be slotted a little better once the cap increases. But Utah also has to look ahead. Does signing 1-2 guys and using our $15M now for 4 yr/$60M create problems when Rudy, Derrick and Gordon are up for contracts. I know the argument...whoever we sign will be a "tradeable" contract.
Short of getting LBJ or an all-star PG, I don't see any acquisition making us a contender. I love the three wings we have. Hood is going to be one of the best 3PT shooters in the league. Could Burks disappoint? Sure. But we'll never know until he's back playing 25-30 mins/per.
Backup big? There's not a better backup center than Favors. The league is going smaller/more mobile, right? Favors is quick enough to stay with those lineups and strong enough to actually punish teams that DO go small. Pleiss is insurance in case of injuries, but likely won't get much time. As for PF, I would have liked an upgrade over Booker. DL thinks he'll have one in Lyles. Only way to develop is to get playing time.
So that leaves PG. I'm sure every team has been asked what they'd give us for Burke and picks.
Also, everyone needs to remember an acquisition can always be done at the deadline. There will be teams offering players. I think we really need to see where we are at and where each position is at. You guys who are advocating throwing youngsters to the bench would have never had the patience to wait for Stockton to be ready to start.
