“People need to leave D-Will the [expletive] alone on this,” Kobe Bryant(notes) told Yahoo! Sports on Thursday night. Bryant and Williams have competed in the Western Conference for years and won an Olympic gold medal together for USA Basketball at the 2008 Beijing Games. “Leave him alone. He doesn’t deserve to be at the front of this. That’s horse…. He’s a great competitor. He works his butt off. He’s always been a great leader. He’s clutch, performs under pressure. Enjoy the 23 great years that Jerry Sloan gave them, but don’t put this on Deron Williams.”

Cool.

Kobe understands Deron, Deron understands Kobe.

I can't think of a more appropriate comparison. Especially as regards powerplays. And hey, Kobe probably threw the 04 Finals, and just gave up a few years ago against the Suns.

I agree with Kobe. No beef!

Kobe Bryant? Really??

Not the best source of opinion in my book, as he's going to side with his fellow egotist players 20 times out of 20.

Well, as long as they aren't teammates of the same, or higher, stature in the league.

It's amazing to me how people talk about Kobe's loyalty to the Lakers after all that went down with Shaq, then with the idiotic and absurd whining about the lack of "talent" on the Lakers after Kobe helped to create the ugly outcome.

If Lakers' fans should be thankful to anyone, it's Jerry West. And David Stern. The Gasol gift came just in time.

Kobe is smarter than the average Jazzfan.

D-Will did nothing wrong. Sloan is a good guy and a great coach, to be sure, but he is not a god. Deron is allowed to disagree with him. We do know Deron was not even in that meeting, he had nothing to do with this.

Get off it deron haters.

fallenchicken, so, should we just dispense with coaches altogether? Let the players call all the shots and run the practices? You are wrong, in the Jazz system, Sloan was the "god" of the system. Larry Miller understood this and backed Sloan at every step. Deron thinks he is smarter than Sloan and wants to run it his own way? Now is his big chance. I suspect Deron will find out the hard way that calling your own shots all the time is not as easy as it may seem. The success or failure of the franchise is essentially on him now, and he'll have to put his money where his mouth is.

Ok. First off: Deron is not the new coach. Tyrone Corbin will be calling shots and running the practices. I am sure Deron will have his permission(As he had Sloans) and as most point guards have permission to run their own play.

"Deron thinks he is smarter than Sloan and wants to run it his own way"

Just completely untrue. You literally just made that up. That's an extremely assumptive and unfair statement, nobody has given any indication of this. Unless you know something we don't, you're full of ****.

Agreed. Sloan said Deron tried to do everything they asked him to do. Deron's growing frustration was in sensing from a player's perspective that some changes could be made for improvement but evidently Sloan didn;t want to adjust some tings. DWill wasn't trying to say "let me do whatever the hell I want" and freelance like a motherbear out there as far as I can tell. He would be mad when players didn't run the system. That doesn't mean he didn't see ways it could be changed for the better.

...look! The big problem with Sloan was that he was so stuck in his ways about slowing the ball down, running the half-court offense and taking time off the shot clock to make the other team play defense.....that even when the Jazz did have a prime fast break opportunity, 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 or even 3 on 1....Sloan wanted his point guard to hold up and play a half-court offense!!! Correct me if I'm wrong on that and you didn't see it hundreds of times during the Sloan era of recent years? Yes, when we had Stockton and Malone the half-court was a great option. But with the players we had the last 10 years we needed to take advantage of any mismatches we could produce on fast break opportunities and take those open shots! That's what bugged Deron, me, you and this whole jazzfanz board!!! And then there were the substitution patterns, pulling guys that were playing well...just because a certain time period elapsed in the period? PLEASE! Sloan needed to go. I know it, you know it....and now the American public knows it!

How many times have you seen Sloan tell the team to slow down on a break? I cant recall that happening onces. I do recall alot of the time him standing there and yelling to get down the court. The Jazz system tries first to get back for easy baskets when teams are in transition. If that is not available, then you set up the half court offensive sets and work to try and get a missmatch on switches. Third option is a clean look on cuts or screens. While at all times having players in possition to go after offesive rebounds.

The Jazz offense is like a quarterback checking down recievers. The players have to be in sink in order for it to run smoothly. If they are out of possition, it disrupts the contuniation of the reads and you end up playing unorginized ball which is a poor option against NBA talent playing team defense.

Welp, hell has most likely frozen over........"great post"
