Head Coach Jerry Sloan to resign today :(

At a few points during the conference, Sloan's eyes looked exactly like my grandpa's eyes when he would try to talk or think, a few years before he died (he had both Alzheimers and Parkinsons)

who would have thought jerry sloan would retire mid-season... he abandoned us! That's so unlike the "Jerry Sloan" I know, I hope we can get to the truth soon

Let us forever keep this thread bumped until the demise of JF.com.

A novel, worthy thread, indeed. A tribute thread, indeed.

It just occured to me; it is possible Sloan did this partly to motivate the team, kind of like getting thrown out of a game on purpose, but on a bigger scale, since nothing else was working.

Then you really don't understand our culture, the Jazz org, or both.

The Jazz begged him to stay, and have given him the reins for years unchecked.
There is no way in hell they would have ever pushed out Sloan. He was untouchable.

i belevie he was forced out and that phil johnson followed him as a matter of principle

I don't know if this has been brought up in other threads or not, but can someone who knows the rules let us know if there would be any way to give Jerry Coach of the Year? I know he wouldn't care, but how fitting would it be to acknowledge Jerry at the end of the season with an award that he deserved and did not get so many times in the past? I think it would be great, but I don't know if it's possible. Is it?

the coy award is a joke. if jerry gets it this year the joke of an award willl be even a bigger joke

I think the Jazz did beg him to stay...until the season was over.

Sloan probably decided it was going to be on his terms, not theirs.

The COY award is a joke anyway. If he does get it, it will be a lifetime achievement award, not really for COY.

This just come out:

New details of Jerry Sloan's resignation discussion with O'Connor have just surfaced. KOC pulled Jerry Sloan in and told him he was shopping Williams and entering rebuild mode. Jerry's veins went ice cold as he lit up O'Connor with the most hardcore 'I quit' speeches you'll ever hear. "What you **** ****** ** ****** **** *** son of a bitch draft queen failure dog **** loser Greg *** monkey. If you could draft worth a **** * ****** then we'd have a ****** **** ******** **** to put on the ***** * ******** ***** ** ******* ***** floor. I told your *** **** ****** ****** ***** *** to take Landry or ******* any ********* ********* *** **** else. ***** *** ***** I have leaves to rake."

If Jazz had just a little more patience. Sloan leaving was a blessing in disguise. It was time. Enough was enough. 23 years is a very long time. But at least give Corbin a chance to build something. Why take out the only great player on the team? KOC made his share of mistakes, but I don't think this will be the one he can recover from.

That's actually really amazing. Vinylone and moevilli noticed signs of Parkinson's disease a full 5 years before it came out that he was diagnosed (it was reported as if he had just been diagnosed with it).

It adds a wrinkle to the Sloan retirement story in that maybe Sloan stepped down not only because of the DWill issue but because he knew or suspected he had a disease.
