What's new

Will Hayward and/or Gobert go the the All-Star game this year?

The problem Gobert is going to have is that they did away with Center as a position to vote for. So he is competing with all players that play in the post in the west. So he is in the same boat Favors is in.

Hayward on the other hand has a chance if he hits that 20/5/4 he was so close to last year and we have a good record. His competition isn't near as stout. These are the wings in the west that Hayward is completing with.
Harden
Kobe
Lenard
Parsons
Tyreke
Durant
Wiggins
Thompson
Gay

I think Gordon is quite a bit better than any other staring wing in the west. Harden and Durant are the only 2 that are a step above Hayward. Kobe is still a problem because of the fan vote. So there is a legit chance Hayward could get in.

Barring injury of course...
Locks to be in the All-Star game:
Davis
Curry
Thompson
Harden
CP3
Lillard
Gasol
Griffin
Westbrook
Durant
Cousins
Aldridge
Kobe

Kobe aldridge lillard thompson
Gasol are not locks imo

Kobe is a lock because he always wins the fan vote. Even when he's not playing.
.
I'm pretty sure he could tear his ACL in the 1st game of the season and still make the stupid *** all star game.

This is why I hate how the All Star game participants are determined. I believe one year Yao Ming hadn't even played a game but was voted in due to the voters in China. We see the same thing with Kobe and even Allen Iverson iirc

They are still fun to watch, especially if you have players in it you actually like.

No they're not. It's God awful basketball in which the players blow each other, admiring their game and athleticism and shenanigans as if it's so amazing when no one is playing any defense.

There's nothing competitive or natural about it.

He has no shot IMO. He could be at 21/11/2 and he still wouldn't get in IMO. Unless we were a top 4-5 team in the west I guess.
Lol. If Favors is putting up those ridiculous numbers he's in 100%. Coaches will vote him in at the very least.

Last few minutes are usually competitive if the game is close.

Gobert should and will be an all-star several times in his career. I'm stoked that it's just his 2nd year and he's already shown how gutsy and badass he's gonna be. The following song comes to mind:

I enjoy watching the all star game.

I make more of an effort to watch summer league games than I do ASG.

I do too but that's only because it's Jazz related. You want to see the new rookie and see how much better the young guys are. But there is still a level of excitement to see the best in the world

Worst all star game in sports in the Pro Bowl. The NBA all-star game is a very close second. I have not watched a single minute of either of those 2 events in 10 years. Not worth the time, completely pathetic. Baseball sucks balls so no point in watching their all star game.

Because he "has always" does not mean that he "will always"

Same could have been said for DWade until last year. Wade was not voted in despite having a very good year. And Kobe's vote count has dropped a lot in the last 2 years and will fall further unless he earns a spot. Even back in 2014 he was second to Curry in votes and beat out Chris Paul 989 to 804k votes. If Kobe is mediocre and was chosen over Hardin, Paul, Curry and/or Westbrook after they have "expected" seasons I would be surprised. We'll see, fans are not always rational.

Gasol is a lock, he's the best center in the league and all of Europe will vote for him

He's been in 2 ASGs in career, was not voted in or chosen by coaches in 2013 or 2014 (he had a slightly better year in 2015). There were people in Europe in 2013-14.

Plus he is over 30 and could slide.

Best center? Probably, but Howard (healthy), Cousins, Drummond, Jordan. (I'd mention Rudy, but that would be totally homer).

I'd give him a 75% shot, but not a lock.
