What's new

Jeff Withey Signed

I'm excited about Whithy. I liked him coming out of Kansas and he hasn't really gotten a lot of opportunity to show what he has. He's not a stiff, has some athletic ability and has some good mobility for a 7footer. This would allow the Jazz to play super big at times with him playing pf along side Gobert, if they choose to do so. I could see Whithy improve as a player here.

After watching Pleiss play today, I'm convinced Withey makes the team. Pleiss is a cardboard cutout on defense. He might be as bad as Kanter. He doesn't contest anything nor give help. But at least he's only a $3M/per mistake. About the only positive thing I can say about Tibor is he sets a decent pick and then rolls nicely to the basket. Didn't see much else from him.

Let's hope asking Withey to only be a rim protector, which is his strength, makes him a decent role player. He can spell Gobert for about 10 mins and maybe we still see Favors play a little 5, with Lyles at the 4.

But haven't we already paid for Pleiss' buyout?

Can we afford to keep both Pleiss and Whitey?

Most likely outcome: Tibor Pleiß spends season in Idaho (mostly), working with developmental coaches on shot, defense and strength. Withey is our third center.

Pleiss is our second center. There's virtually no chance in the world he's not on the roster on opening day. You don't pay 9 million and bring an asset from overseas in order to cut him/send him to Idaho after training camp. They will play him and see what they have in him for several months and if he's totally horrible then, he might be sent down at some point during the season.

Also, they seem to be more than willing to develop whatever they want to develop in the young players while they are on the roster without sending them to the Stampede.

Of course we can. We're not even close to the cap yet. And I never meant it to sound like we should cut Pleiss. I just don't see him contributing much next season - if his play mirrors what I saw. Just my opinion, though. I tend to run on the negative.

As silesian said, Pleiss can work with the coaches on fundamentals and strength. Gobert will be averaging 34 mins or so. Quin decides whether to play Withey behind him or continue to have Favors be the backup center. Probably will be a little of both.

Do you think it was possible that the FO didn't realise Withey was available before they went out and got Pleiss?

Did it again a couple of times with the "Whitey" remark. You have to be a closet racist. :p

Pleiss was part of the Kanter trade so they got him way before Withey was available. Pleiss has some skills and there's that famous saying that you can't teach height. TBH, Gobert didn't look all that great today, either. Maybe the coaches will have Pleiss make a few adjustments in his game and the NBA will suit him better than Euro ball. No problem having three legit centers, coaching them up for a year and then deciding how to proceed. Pleiss and Withey are both pretty cheap. As far as a roster spot, it knocks Cooley and probably Johnson from the team. Not really a big impact.

Don't forget post #136, too.
I'm just giving you a hard time. I don't think you are a racist. It's just a hilarious typo unless you are so PC you can't see the humor in it.

Haha.. I see the humour in it, just not sure all the "sharks" around here see it the same way.. haha..
