I don't wholesale believe Americans are dumb.
I do believe we are fairly lazy.
I also believe we are fairly unqualified to determine which candidate would make the best president.
It's better than having a dictatorship, though.

And I don't believe we are unqualified because of being dumb, but more so gullible stemming from a laziness to do our homework.
