Dislike Button

Like-only system is something to canalize people's attitudes towards each other in a fake positive way. This is why I always thought there should always be a negative vote next to the positive one. You cannot talk about freedom of choice in a like-only system. If we are gonna go ahead and bash this dislike button as a drama magnet, then we should move away the rep system too which is perfectly fine with me. I do not mean to stir some **** up I'm just towards adding a dislike button anywhere where there is a like button and since Jazzfanz is a place I spend my time in, I thought I should tell you guys that it is time to add a dislike button.

This also allows any reader to see who does not agree with it. Just as in like-system, it's an open voting system. It allows posters to show/view others' point of view or at least a glimpse of it in the other side of the analytical table too.

When you see a notification that a poster liked a post, you gain an idea of him/her.

Why not have the same opportunity through dislikes notifications?

Or you can discuss the issue you don't disagree with in a normal way we've always had for years?


The problem with the dislike button is this: Say I read a post from you and 'dislike' your post, then afterwards I had a discussion with you, and you have persuaded me to change my mind and I now agree with your original post. But the post will still register my 'dislike' for the post which cannot be undone forever even though I have now changed my view on it.


That's the whole point of having a forum like this, it's to discuss things and talk it through and make the other person see your side of the argument. What's the point of doing that if my 'dislike' will remain there forever?

I agree with your point. Ideas are bound to change since we are a forum of discussions. I would not like a situation like you've said to happen. This may be solved by allowing posters to undo their like/dislike votes. Which is another thing. Maybe my hand accidentally clicked on the like. Why can't undo it? Not realistic.

But in general, I think this is not a reason to ignore the dislike option being made available for posts. It is a way of simply lurking, not participating if you cannot tidy up your thoughts or do not feel like sharing them or just feeling lazy, and simply clicking on one of the two buttons called like & dislike to show what kind of stance you have about something.

I have no problems about people using it to troll.

How do we discuss? By writing our thoughts down. Posting.

How do trolls do their job? Piss off people just to piss them off? By posting. I don't think it would do any kind of effect on the trolling amount in the community because I think trolls are gonna troll. They survive on it.


I think skipping this thing is just making up reasons for it and burying heads into ground that is full of fake positiveness soil.

That's not the only reason,... as I've said in my other posts, I don't like the fact that new (or old) posters could be put off by having their posts dislike simply because they are posting something controversial or unpopular. If you disagree with a post then discuss it like we've always done with reasons and logic, to me it's too easy to simply press a 'dislike' button and create more drama and hurtful feelings or resentment amongst Jazz fans. After all Jazzfanz to me is a safe place for like minded posters to discuss Jazz related topics for the most part in a safe and non confrontational & family friendly environment.


I dunno may be I'm too much of a peace loving kinda guy... but like Gameface said, the dislike button is gonna create even more drama than the forum needs.

Drama is fun to me. That's why People over use it to create big deals out of nothing. Account deactivation... Oh my god! Lol. Smh.


My point is, drama will always be there if people need to stir some **** up and draw attention. Dislike button won't boost any Of that which is already there.


In fact, it could clear some away from lazy drama queens' yapping.

The point you are trying to make about new posters is not valid imo. Normal people don't / would not get upset and leave because people dislike their posts. Agreeing to disagree is the mature thing to do sometimes. You don't always agree with people. That's not how things work. There are many micro effects to determine your motivation to demonstrate a case. That' s why people conflict. Having the conflict in a civil way is the right way of life.

I don't see Jazzfanz as a likeminded bunch. As a matter of fact, it came out a lot more plural for the directions of people's voices about things, while I only expected a one dimensional Mormon dominated place the first time I have arrived.

That's why I still stick around.

I love being able to argue with people of absolutely different worlds of minds and do it in Engrish.

No, he is not. He is, though, part of the millennial demographic that is rather sensitive. The same ilk that calls for "safe rooms" across many of our progressive colleges.
