Is it Time to Cut Guys?

It seems like a lot of the non-guaranteed guys are not going to get a run. I know O'Brien and Graham are probably Stampede bound but might it be time to let Cooley and Cotton go to see if an NBA team will pick them up. It appears fairly obvious that they don't fit in Quinn's plans. I guess the last spot will be Chris Johnson vs. Withey.

Well Snyder does not seem that interested in playing guys that have no chance so I say go for it.

Focus all your time on the guys we are keeping or might keep and work on issues like O spacing and turnovers.

But I am not a coach, (lol worst team ever?), and what do I really know.

I count 13. Booker, Burke, Burks, Exum, Favors, Gobert, Hayward, Hood, Ingles, Lyles, Millsap, Neto, and Pleiss. I think Withey and Johnson both make it (assuming Jerrett is waived and the Jazz start the year with 15 guys}. Wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of cuts before the next Portland game.

I think it will be:

Gobert/Withey/Pleiss
Favors/Booker/Lyles
Hayward/Ingles/Johnson
Burks/Hood/Millsap
Burke/Neto (Exum)

But Johnson will be cut before he is guaranteed. To maintain flexability.

I was kind of stocked after they signed Graham given his last summer league game in Las Vegas but he seems to have turned into the ghost of Ian Clark or Brock Motum.

Yeah I think Cotton is toast, which sucks... I liked him and think he might be better than Trey Burke... if both were on unguaranteed deals I think Burke vs. Cotton is an interesting discussion.

Not sure if we will see that much triple or quadruple wing like we did last night, but I think we keep Chris Johnson all year. He defends well... looks like he's improved his shot and moves really well. I don't see a need to cut him just for flexibility if he is a contributor.

We need to buyout Jerrett and keep Withey.

Jody Genessy: Jazz have waived J.J. O’Brien and Jack Cooley.

Well there you have it.

Johnson salary is never going to hinder flexibility in any serious way. He's also probably the 2nd or 3rd best perimeter defender on the team + he has a reliable corner 3. You don't cut a guy like that for mere flexibility when he's making peanuts.

This is a good point. Johnson makes under $1 million, really not much to worry about waiving if needed.

Actually, now that I think about it, the Jazz have to pay $63 million anyways (salary cap minimum this season) so really there would be no "saving money" by cutting Johnson before he is guaranteed.

Cooley and O'Brien can see what is out there and if no nibbles head to Boise.

I can't see anything I've done wrong here. Just trying to understand the points he's trying to make.

I think it's time this site cuts NAOS

Craptastic, I accidentally "Liked" this post.

In reality I don't like it.

Now I have garbled up the thread with useless blather too.

Question about Jazz stuff....do the Jazz lose their rights to Obrien since he was their draft pick and they invited him to camp?

O'Brien was undrafted. Jazz just signed him to the Summer League squad and gave him a summer contract.
