What's new

Dennis Schroeder "will seek other opportunities to be a starter"...

ATL broke out just last year. Dennis was a key part of that. You'll think I'm over-stating things when I say that. I'm not. He wasn't a core piece. But he was an important part of how the Hawks kept the pedal to the metal. He's better than Burke by a significant margin on both sides of the ball.

I still think that Exum has a higher ceiling, that's why.

Like I said in my post, it's a risk worth taking. If the choice is between trading Exum or Burke + picks, then I would do the latter. But I would give up Exum before I would Burks. For one, Burks' offense is badly needed, and I think he has room to become a very good player. Second, Shroeder would need to get paid, and Exum's pay day arrives soon after. I don't think the Jazz can afford that many highly paid players. Third, soon after acquiring Schroeder we would have to choose between them anyway. I don't buy Exum at the 2 unless some miracle happens. We would have given up Burks for practically nothing.

you cross those bridges when you have to. What if Hayward opts out and doesn't want to return? There's an open max slot for you. Having too much talent (relative to market value or any other metric) is a good problem to have. I think Shro and Exum will both be mid-30s 3-point shooters, which is enough to play them alongside one another.

They've actually played one game in the same backcourt: the Nike Hoops Summit where they slashed the USA to death.

The more I watch the higher end teams in the league, the more I think high end talent is integral when constructing potential contenders. That's why I wouldn't trade Exum - I think he has high end talent and even if the chance of him reaching that ceiling is not great, I'd rather give up other lesser assets(picks) than him.

The league has definitely moved that way since always.

We're still talking about trading assets for a sub? A guy who might be top 25-30 in the league on a good team?

Yah, I was one of the people that got tricked into thinking that you can do it with a team of solid(not upper level talent) that is coached well and executes a system perfectly after the Spurs 2014 title and the Atlanta regular season last year, but I admit I was wrong. That Spurs team still had 2-3 future hall-of-famers and Kawhi who at the time I didn't believe will be top tier level player in the league, but he's turned into one, and Atlanta completely collapsed in the playoffs when teams had the time to prepare and started taking away their weapons and started scheming specifically against their system. At the end of the day talent wins vs schemes and talent + schemes wins vs only talent(simplistically put, but you get what I mean).
