Three Pointers- Neto-4/4, Burke N/A

If I had to point out a couple of stats that I hadn't expected, here they are. There is no way that Trey has willingly made the choice to not take a three pointer in two games, there has to have been some throttling by Quinn. Because of this, Burke is forced to work on his drive and assist game once the lazy three point jack is not an option and has been looking much improved. Having Burks as the designated "Ice" option will help him as well, rather than just getting the ball passed back to him with 3 seconds left by Millsap, Booker and crew like what happened a lot last year.

Conversely, after watching pre season it is kind of amazing to see Neto being put in a position to shoot that three successfully, which he has really never done.

Neto has shot the three well in his stints with Brazil's team.

Good, interesting post otherwise.

To add to the unexpected stat.. Burke has taken a 3 in every career NBA regular season game he has ever played.. except these first 2 games this season..

Something to pay attention to definitely.

Also to add to the unexpected start - Trey Lyles minutes at C.. This was Kentucky's starting SF last year - Thats rather unusual, can anyone recall something similar???

It has been surprising. To me, that Lyles-Booker combo looks like absolute trash. Very surprised not to see Withey.

It's really too early to tell.

Looks like 2-man lineup of Booker, Lyles has a team performance in 5.4 minutes of: 5-12 (41.7%), 10 points, +5 differential

I think it's interesting to explore based on matchup. Probably will see it again tonight based on Indiana's roster.

paths to the basket look wide open to me. Thanks for the early stat... something to keep an eye on.

Neto's 3pt shooting could be worth several victories if its on point(near 35%) It's a potential MAJOR storyline, and stranger things have happened, shooting mechanics are a tricky thing, If he's streamlined something - who knows what that's worth... The Jazz ball movement looks pretty good the first 2 games.. If he's only gonna pull the trigger on good looks, He'll be a great example for Burke to watch from the bench too:rolleyes:..

We knew Neto was a pest, but I'm surprised at just how effective he looks getting steals.. One of my favorite plays of the game was when he stole T.J McConnell's dribble, it was glorious.

I've been posting for years that Trey is more of a probing PG, than anything else.. Especially if he can avoid TO's doing that, that mindset will really help him down the line.. (Most here would now agree that he's not a floor general.. And most here would agree call to classify him a shooter or scorer is kind of... not right.. he's not efficient enough..)

Thing is --- If Quinn had him change something up.. I bet he wants him drawing fouls(more), right now he's got 12 FGA's and 0 FTA's so It'll be worth keeping an eye on, as always..

Yeah but Lyles at C is an interesting proposition, he can faceup from the 3pt line, he can pass, has a really good feel for offense.. it's a potentially good matchup - e.g. Trying to play catchup and the offense doesn't look that great.. Lyles might be the best option..

If he can guard the opposing C as well as he did Noel last night, it's a good idea.

They had Booker on Okafor at one point, thats a mismatch, it's gonna be tough for Booker to show well defending that matchup..

I'm not against him playing there. I'm just not thrilled by the Booker-Lyles combo so far. And it certainly isn't producing a lot of offense at the 4 and 5 spots (but, as MDAV points out, it MAY be producing good offense elsewhere in the system).

Looking at the play-by-play it looks like the lineup produced a lot of mid-range jumpers, which is obviously not ideal. Plus a lot of the time was garbage time at the end of a 30-point game.
