What's new

Any theories for bad Jazz performances with plenty of rest?

you're defining the relative boundaries of 'consistent' subjectively as well. "only consistent player on the team" asserts his consistency relative to other players on the team, and doesnt necessarily equate to this non-definable label of what 'consistency' concretely is

Cy's original statement was that Hayward is consistent, not that he's the most consistent player on the team. The first statement is not undefinable. It means his performances are consistent relative to one another. My impulse, just from watching him play over the years, was to disagree. He's had plenty of ups and downs, and I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on a few games stretche where he's producing well below his averages (specially his shooting) at any point in the season. Upon reflection though, I think that's probably the case with most NBA players, and I probably notice more with Hayward because of his prominent role on the team I watch the most.

is there a starting guard in the NBA shooting a worse %age than Danny Green right now?

Anyone in the mood for a laugh, search up his stats. I'll warm you up: 32.4% from the field.

The scary **** is that it's not even hurting the Spurs. When he gets right, they might be better than the Warriors.

that's a nice qualifier at the end there, basing your opinion on the team you see the most.

I still say that consistency is Hayward's main hurdle at this point in his career.

A genuine 12 year old in every facet

So he's hitting lots of free throws in Idaho?

does it matter? There's an extensive list of non-NBA players with great strokes. This might be too difficult to wrap your limited brain around.

Dude is the best FT-shooter in practice. Pls come up with a list of centers in the NBA who would lead their team similarly in practice. TIA #unreal

It certainly matters whether those unreal mechanics are unreal while the clock is ticking. Only a dumbass thinks otherwise.

you're way past your peak, kid. Your confidence is sad.

how he's gotten his numbers has shifted from game to game. Pretty dramatically sometimes. He'll be ice cold from range and rim-running all game, then he'll heat up from range and look for his shots from out there, then he'll disappear altogether for a half. Being consistent can't be proven by scoring statistics because you can score in a variety of ways (i.e. you can score inconsistently). On what other basics do you need a refresher?

The basic eye test disproves the Hayward Is Consistent hypothesis. He's an important player for us. But he is inconsistent enough that any team led by him (at this point in his career) will be an inconsistent team. Right now, a lot of his teammates are adjusting themselves to what is working for him, rather than knowing what they'll do because they know how he's going to get what he's going to get. Big difference. I'm hoping Favors has more and more influence.

This did actually give me a good laugh

I love how the hivemind is now univocally in Hayward's jockstrap and ready to misunderstand the smallest bit of intelligent critique. I haven't claimed that he isn't our most important scorer, I haven't claimed that he isn't our leader, I haven't claimed that he hasn't been great lately. The emphasis is on lately. I honestly can't believe I'm having a hard time in a discussion about Hayward's consistency. Is he getting better in this facet? Probably. Does his career show measurable inconsistency? Yes. One word answer.

You're a pure moron if you think that Pleiss isn't getting burn because his mechanics are changing.

you're going to have to clarify the ridiculous way you're slanting this argument. So, his mechanics are unreal during practice and which other times when an NBA clock isn't ticking?
