It is time consider trade Hayward

There's some interesting wing players on the market this summer that combined with Hood could fill the void of Hayward, especially if the Hayward trade returned a trove of future assets.

Lets pretend the 76ers care to improve/revamp their team this year and they traded

Saric, Embiid and some future picks for Hayward. The Jazz could then throw Harrison Barnes the same type of deal the Hornets signed Hayward to.. The oft injured Brad Beal is also RFA too.

Saric could help fill in some of those lost minutes, and some of Trevor Bookers minutes, with Sap and Elijah off the books and the 1st round pick there's room for more reinforcements on the wing too... IMO Burks could play some SF depending on the matchup, so they could go for a SG.

It's kind of incredible how the line of thinking for so many people here basically boils down to "Hayward is not a superstar, therefore he is a colossal failure and it's time to trade him..

Philly had the same feelings about Igoudala. He was an their best player, and an allstar - not good enough -- they wanted him to be a superstar (AI, Barkley, DrJ) which he was not, so he got slammed by fans and media and eventually moved in the disastrous Bynum trade. Dumb.

I know this will hurt a lot of feelings here, but I honestly don't think Hayward is as highly regarded by GM's around the league as Jazz fans believe he is. There's a reason why the majority of Jazz trade rumors floating around always seem to involve Derrick Favors'...a lot of teams want him. But we rarely ever hear trade rumors involving Hayward.

High GM interest leads to trade rumors. That's why you don't hear many trade rumors about Lebron, Curry, Durant and Davis. Not many GMs would want them on their teams. Or maybe....

I've come to realise that DL is like the anti-Morey. He won't trade young players. He will develop and wait and develop some more. He is loyal to players almost to a fault and it seems he's building his legacy as a developmental GM.


If he is holding on to Trey Burke and still believes he can improve, then there's no way he will ever explore/trade Hayward, Favors, Gobert, Burks, Hood.... unless it's for a can't miss talent like Wiggins.


Other than that we're stuck with this group for better or for worse... LOL

As poorly as the original argument was made & as much as I like Hayward & would hate to see the team take such a large step back, I feel (especially since the Exum injury & now even more so with the Gobert injury) it is something that needs to at least be explored. Obviously finding a match would be difficult.

If it weren't for the opt-out clause & rising salary cap I would say ride out the injuries & see what we have with a healthy team, but the circumstances have changed drastically. Exum's development has likely been stunted by at least a year & this season looks to be lost (outside of a possible 1st round exit).

I understand that people are hesitant to get stuck in the "perpetual rebuild", but small-market franchises such as this one can not easily replace players such as Hayward. I would rather risk trading him for unknown prospects\draft picks than bet our ability to retain him (at likely higher than market value) on Exum coming back 100%, the team gelling, making a deep playoff run, etc.

I'm not suggesting that we trade him unconditionally, just that we explore it, & that if he appears unlikely to re-sign, now is the time to trade him (similar to the D-Will situation, not that they're the same). Considering the fact that our entire core (outside of Hayward) is locked up for at least 2 more seasons beyond this one, if the right trade is available, it should at least be considered.

Either rebuild is not finish or it has failed. You cannot tell us it was success us fans are not blind.

As for the OP, yes, I DO think Utah should consider trading Hayward, He WILL opt out and some crazy team will give him $30M/per since there will be tons of cap space to burn. Hayward is NOT a #1 option and Utah needs to run away from that kind of contract. Look what the DWill trade got us: the #3 pick in the previous draft and a bunch of future assets. Might be worth it to explore the same type of trade.

I hear Marvin Williams, Mo Williams, Richard Jefferson and Randy Foye might be available in exchange for Trey and the Thunder first. You can get Raja for a vet minimum contract. I'm sure they won't take playing time away from the young guys who need to develop.

The key is the right signings at the right time. Once the core emerges we build complementary pieces around them.

Premature to be judging Lyles at this stage. He is 20 with size, skills and a upside. Just understandably a bit lost right now, as were a lot of young rookies who turned out just fine (check out stats on Draymond Green, Dirk, Nash, Butler, Harden, Kobe). I believe we'll be liking this pick in 3 years or so.

Okay to judge the Trey pick although getting a serviceable backup at #9 (probably belonged 20-25) who may become a very good shooter and a decent scorer in a weak draft is nothing to have a cardiac over.

Burke and Lyle picks were not consecutive -- remember that Exum guy?

For the most part, it's working. Hayward made a huge jump in year 4 to 5. Favors has made steady progression every year. Burke stalemated in his second year but is looking much improved in his third year. Burks the jury is still out, he's a frustrating player to watch because he has the tools to be a really good player. Kanter was the rawest player in the draft so keeping him 4 years was probably the right thing to do in hope he breaks out. We know how it went down, but doubt he would have fetched more than a mid 1st rounder at any point after his second year.
