Trades: What are we looking for ideally?

I'm sticking with the Brandon Knight trade I suggested a few weeks back. He'd be a good fit here. Phoenix is falling apart. They just fired two assistant coaches; Bledsoe is injured; and there are reports that there are problems between Knight and Bledsoe is the locker room.

That's 14M per year for four more years. Is that something we can afford knowing Hayward, Gobert and Favors will have to be reupped? And maybe Exum, Burks, and Hood? Moreover, where does that leave Exum next year? And worst of all, how do we financially pull this off within CBA guidelines?

Burks and Hood would have to be part of the deal for Knight.

14M will be a good deal for Knight as the cap continues to skyrocket.

We're already thin and would trade two of our key contributors away for an average point guard after just spending the #5 overall pick on a kid who you just happen to love and who just happens to also play point guard? Doesn't make sense to me. I'd rather have Jrue. He's 4M cheaper and his contract is up after next year and he's currently coming off the bench anyway so if that were to continue next year when Exum returns, it shouldn't ruffle too many feathers. Burke for Jrue would work I think. And it would free up about 8M for the Pels this summer so that they could maybe pursue a legit FA.

Exum-Jrue-Neto
Burks-Hood
Hayward-Ingles-Lyles (I know he's played a lot of 4 but I see him here and the 4)
Favors-FA-1st rounder(Bender is my dream)
Gobert-Withey

What say you about that as our core next year?

^Assuming we're healthy, and we get one solid vet FA, and Lyles improves (like Exum seemed to before his injury), and Withey plays like he has been, that's a pretty deep squad that could be legit.

I don't care if it makes us thinner this year. Every move we make should be about the long term goal: winning a championship. Knight is clearly better than Burks or Hood, so this trade moves us forward in the long run, and that's all that matters IMO.

Part of why I like the idea of Knight is because I believe he and Exum can co-exist. I don't think of Knight as a pure point; he's a combo guard. He can play along side Exum and run the point while Exum sits. He already has shown he can do this with Bledsoe. His outside shooting should compliment Exum's driving ability nicely, and I think they can both switch onto 1s and 2s. It would work on both ends of the floor.

Your core looks good. But Holiday is much riskier than Knight. He's had major injuries and is years older. I'd be good with him at the right price, but obviously would much rather have Knight. Like I said before: Knight's contract is very fair with the rising cap.

In the end, I have no idea what the Jazz will do. None of these trade ideas ever come to fruition anyway. I don't think Lindsay will make a major move. I think he has faith in the core of this team and will just let the development process continue unless an undeniably good trade presents itself.

I don't see knight as that big of an improvement over Burke honestly. Trey hasn't been consistent but the percentages are similar and when you figure in the added cost in contract and assets we'd give up I'd rather pass.

What are you talking about? Knight is averaging Gordon Hayward numbers. Trey Burke is nowhere near Knight's level, and never will be.

Let me know when Trey Burke has a game like this.

TIA

Koufos. The contract is north of 8M for a couple more years but he'd be a realy solid 3rd big. Not sure what we'd have to give up to get him.

you rail on me for suggesting Aminu, but then drop this? The Kings are more all-in than the Blazers, which makes your deal even more unlikely. Funny.

If what I hear is correct, all of the advanced stats on Knight are meh. Like Kanter, he isn't making his team better.

Dunno. But he does play a lot of one-on-one. We need a scorer+facilitator

I could see that. But he would certainly be an upgrade over Burks/Hood. And we need a lethal 3 point shooter badly.

I'm talking about how Trey's numbers per 36 are awfully close to Knight's. Burke is shooting the three better and Knight goes to the line more... knight also rebounds better. Knight is likely a better defender, but the stats that measure that stuff work against Knight.

Factor in that he is a year older and has two more years experience and I don't know how you can say that he is an upgrade worth giving up a ton of assets and cap space for.

I'm glad he had a triple double against a terrible Lakers team... cool story... just one game.

I mostly agree. PHX gave up a lot to get Knight. I doubt they think "his value" has gone down since then. He'd cost too much, probably.

Yeah Burks+Hood and maybe a draft pick for Knight? I'll pass. Trey is underrated... he's pretty inconsistent, but he's a poor man's Knight. Knight is also hot and cold. A triple double against the worst defensive team in the league doesn't do much for me. He's a good player... better than Trey but he's not going to change things for us.

he also considers himself a pure point guard and that is part of the issue in PHX... Think Zach Lowe wrote about it.

It would also be the 4th time he's been traded. I'd have to believe there's some personality conflicts and locker room issues that lead up to that. Maybe not a huge concern. . . but still a concern.

Hmm, not sure, have to think about it.

Guys I like for the future

Exum
Hood/Burks
Hayward
Favors/Lyles
Gobert/Withey

And I'm guessing one of Neto/Burke will wind up fine in the backup PG role, so really all I'd be looking for us is one more 3/D type wing to backup Hayward. Not sure who we should be looking at there. But really I don't see many trades right now that would really help us out.

Bobby Portis had another good game.

16 points
7/12 from the field
2/2 from the FT line.
7 rebounds
1 block
1 steal
