Making a Murderer

signed up for netflix in part so I could watch this. My wife and I watched the first two episodes but I don't think she's nearly as into it as I am. I might keep watching on my own.

Yeah I figured it'd be right up your alley. Serial this year has been a bit of a let down for me so this has been a GREAT replacement.

It's also something to take my mind off the struggling Jazz... LOL

SPOILERS

I'm in a car on my phone and earlier I got through about the first 3.5 episodes. So much of this case was botched by the local PD. I love how they hand the case off to Calumet, a neighboring town, as if cops don't know one another and the chance for impropriety couldn't still be strong. If the local cops wanted to handle the case properly, they would've called in Statiss or imo, the FBI, though they probably we're too busy with Homeland Security tbh.

Then, the Colburn clown who is from that town is in the trailer when the keys were miraculously found three after the search began. Really? One, I thought the local cops weren't involved. Two, it took you until the fourth day to find a set of keys in a tiny trailer? I call ********.

Not saying he didn't do it but the whole handling of this case was terrible.

I'm watching Episode 6 tonight but so far there are more startling revelations about Colburn to come.... but yes I agree with everything you've said.

My theory (and a popular one on the internet) is that the brother-in-law and older son (not Brennan) murdered her. They were the only two other people around the property and both have matching alibis that they "went hunting". Both of them testified against Steven and neither seemed to like him at all.

I'm on episode 5. I just don't see the body language at all of a guilty man. Watch him during the trial. He looks genuinely interested, always leaning forward, listening to the lawyers and the testimony. Then watch every other murder trial. The defense is always sitting calmly, trying to act as if they didn't do it, sitting there in their suits, trying to look proper, looking almost catatonic at times, their guilt obvious and eventual. Dude is not like that at all. I see no inhibitions. Just a dude who's listening and cares for his life.

Also, the calls we hear him make from prison (that are subtitled) are always consitent in tone. I didn't do it. End of story. There's no awakwardness or red flags. Dude just says he didn't do it. Again, not in the tone that most of these scumbags take in similar circumstances.

SPOILERS

I definitely don't think he did it. Too much weird ****. The keys are found on the 4th day. The syringe-like hole in his vial of blood from the 1985 case, whose seals were broken. The blood on the car despite the fact that there was no prints which means he likely was wearing gloves which means how could blood have gotten there. The RAV being left on the edge of the property (which I doubt he would've done). The call on 11/3, two days before the vehicle was found on his property, by Office Colburn.

That call on 11/3 hit me like a tonne of brick ... why did he call? The fact that he lied about it too... a blatant lie.

OK so I've just finished the whole 10 episodes and here are my thoughts...

** MAJOR SPOILER **

I just cannot believe a jury could have convicted both Avery and Dassey based on the evidence presented. Where is "innocent until proven guilty"?

- There were no DNA of the victim found anywhere in the property - how is that even possible if she was killed there?

- The fact that the deposed Detective Lenk was allowed on the search team and found the x2 crucial pieces of evidence was suspicious to say the least

- What is there to tie Steven Avery to the murder except that the bullet was found in his garage and the car was on his yard - but those could have been planted by ANYONE

- There is at least 'reasonable doubt' here that he is not the killer.

- Then the way that juror was excused for personal reason was highly suspicious.... may be he was a staunch 'not guilty' guy and the county/police somehow found a way to get rid of him?

Things I took for this case:

- It's just alarming to me that the jury system is such that the jury can be 'tainted' by the media and that the person with a 'strong' personality can more often than not persuade people who aren't as strong and get the verdict that they wanted (it started with 7 not guilty and 3 guilty IIRC).

- People who aren't as smart or 'slow' can be taken advantage of in the justice system which to me is really sad. There should be measures to assist these people not to have them be attacked just to get a confession and/or solve the case.

Anonymous - the internet Hacking group apparently have discovered some evidence that they think could prove Steven's innocent. This thing is not over. Millions of people would have watched this documentary - SOMEBODY must have seen or heard or have some information that could be useful.

I don't think this is the end of it at all, there is still a lot more to this story IMO.

I appreciate the spoiler warnings. I'm on ep.3 so I haven't read most of the posts yet.

So again, I'm on ep.3
The way they worked the confession from that kid makes me completely sick. False confessions are not only real but somewhat common. I don't know what else will be revealed, but what the kid has said as of ep.3 is completely worthless. There's no way to have confidence that it's based on the tiniest sliver of reality.

That was a fake report.

That was a fake report.

Really? Damn... still hope there is something that could come out as new evidence to free him though.

That it was the brother in law and Brandon's brother that did it. They could have easily did it behind their house in that other burning pit and moved it later on to the main pit. That bullet that they could have just thrown in the garage and the key in the bedroom wouldn't have been that difficult to achieve since they're just neighbours..... BUT where would they have gotten Steven's blood to swipe inside that RAV4 though?

Just because someone else did it doesn't mean the people who did it planted the evidence.

So what's your theory?

I know what cy's theory is.

his theory is that whatever you say is wrong and he just wants to disagree with whatever your theory is and point out ways that your theory is wrong and try to make you look dumb. And act like an *******

Haha.. good call.

I just watched episode 3 and saw the confession of the kid. How does anybody actually buy that? That was the most strung along, feed the the guy exactly what you want him to say load of crap ever.
