How disappointed are you with Rodney Hood?

Only the wise have money ready for the best opportunities. The foolish man and his money are easily parted--see Nets, Knicks.

We have fixed our 3pt shooting problem and have 2 legit rim protecting centers and a coach that can win without 4 key players. This team isn't perfect, but there is a lot of green grass on this side of the hill.
 
Am I severely low? I have them making the playoffs at 36-41 wins given their injuries. My low assumes significant additional time missed by Favors and Gobert.

Next season I said they could contend for home court. I think that's pretty optimistic.

My pessimism stems from DL's refusal to sign anyone of note. Is he going to have to overpay? Yes! That's the Utah market. Even KOC was willing to overpay for Boozer and Okur; that's what got them to sign with the Jazz.

And I wouldn't say we've fixed our 3pt shooting. We still can't spread the floor at the 4 and even the 1. Teams can play off Neto and even Burke. Hayward and Burks aren't volume shooters beyond the arc. Only Hood is a big threat. And he's been cold pretty much the entire season until the Memphis game.

Talk is cheap, you're right, so let's put you to the test. Who should DL have signed this past off season? Danny Green and Khris Middleton were never available.

Signing someone of note won't be necessary until we have key foundation pieces in place and 'ready to step up'. Right now our team is still in development and we are still trying to cement our foundations. Golden state made moves 'albeit unpopular at the time' when they felt they had the key pieces in place, and moved pieces that didn't fit in their system at the right time.

I would like to think that the Jazz front office will make moves and channel the money when the time is right. Funnelling money just to 'make a short appearance' in the past didn't work out so well for us and also left us feeling like we had little hope. At least with this team, if they make a short run in the playoffs, we can say they got some experience and we still have something to look forward to in the future.

Also there should be enough headroom to bring in support at the right time. Until then bringing someone else early will just take time away from developmental pieces. However, if our current pieces grow like we want them to, they will eventually be wanting more money.
 
Shudda signed Bron and drafted znger. Duh. How does no one see this? Instead we got lyles and pleiss. When we could have had Bron. Stiffy tower is right guys.

So when does the development stage stop and the winning start? This summer the Jazz probably draft around 15-17. DL can't sign a decent FA because it will take away from that player's development? Lyles was a project. Booker was a high-energy, terrible shooter. Jazz could have upgraded at the 4. And how about Millsap/Johnson. DL can't sign a decent PG or wing because it would take away development from a couple of scrubs?

GS, SA develop their players AS they are winning. GS didn't stop making trades because Harrison Barnes needed minutes. DL talks big but it's ATNA. He needs to wake up and realize the Jazz are going to HAVE to overpay to bring in key FA's. This isn't SA or Lebronville where players will take less to have a shot at a championship.

They didn't sign a pg because of exum. After his injury free agency was close to being over. Book regressed so that was kind of unforeseeable. The wing rotation could have used some help, but who no one is going to sign to play behind Gordon Alec and Rodney. They will sign where there is playing time available. If we are going to make a big move, they need to trade Alec or Rodney. And sometimes those guys look like they could be better than what was on the free agent market last year as far as wings go.

I actually disagree that the "big move" needs to involve getting rid of Alec or Rodney. I like the wing rotation - other than the fact Alec has gotten hurt two years in a row. DL/QS have talked "3&D" for two years straight. But DL hasn't signed any players known for their 3PT shooting, Booker was a lousy shooter last year. Lyles was terrible in college. Even BEFORE the Exum injury, there was room for another PG. Jazz had TONS of cap space. DL knocks on doors, but he wants bargains. Sorry, there aren't any to be had: there are ALWAYS teams with cap space. And this summer will be the year of the crazy overspend with the cap skyrocketing. Last summer was the time to spend on a player or two. DL missed his window and is going to come back with the same excuse in July 2016: he looked to make improvements but nothing made sense. He likes our young players and is expecting internal development. Besides, the biggest "acquisition" is getting back Alec, I mean Dante.

Our 1st round pick replaces Booker on the roster and DL wastes or trades the 2nd one. Johnson is re-signed for the minimum and Millsap is replaced by a former DLeaguer - just so DL can justify his salary to the board.
 
The stupidest thing a small market team can do is overpay for the WRONG players. How would we feel if the Jazz went out and got mediocre players by overpaying and were stuck with no cap space and contracts that were untradable?

There are 26 teams in the NBA that aren't contenders right now. Boo ****ing hoo.
 
Hood is looking much improved of late. Yes he missed a crucial free throw. Still. He's back to form and I hope he keeps it up.

A couple games back Hood took and missed 3 3s in a row. QS emphasized he was pleased he wasn't afraid to take good shots. I'm glad he has stayed with Hood.

And for the record Booker shot 34.5% from 3 last year, this year is not good. Lyles is shooting 40% this year from 3.
